Empowering Financial Literacy - "SMARTs Investor Awareness Program" for MBA Students

Institute of Technology & Science, Ghaziabad organised a Seminar on "SMARTs Investor Awareness Program" to enlighten MBA students on the importance of financial literacy, prudent investment practices, and market dynamics on December 10, 2024. The Resource person was Mr. Sanjay Gakhar, Vice President and Regional Head, Business Development, MCX Delhi.

The initiative is part of SMARTs' mission in collaboration with SEBI to equip young professionals with the skills and knowledge required to make informed financial decisions in their personal and professional lives. Mr. Sanjay Gakhar gave Introduction to stock markets, mutual funds, and bonds. He introduced the functioning of primary and secondary markets, Risk-return trade-offs in investments and emphasized the significance of financial literacy in shaping successful careers.

He also covered Principles of portfolio diversification, Goal-based financial planning and explained the benefits of starting early and the power of compounding.

The seminar received overwhelmingly positive feedback from participants, who found the content engaging and highly relevant to their career aspirations. Many students expressed interest in pursuing certifications in finance and exploring investment opportunities early in their professional journeys.

The SMARTs Investor Awareness Program seminar proved to be an invaluable learning experience for MBA students, bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical financial decision-making.

GUEST LECTURE ON “ OVERVIEW OF IFRS AND IND AS” FOR MBA

S Ghaziabad, Department of Management organized an engaging guest lecture for MBA 2024-26 batch students with CA Pankaj Jain, D Y P Jain and Co LLP, on December 11, 2024 on “Overview of IFRS and Ind AS” . The event aimed to provide insights into the adoption and implementation of IFRS in India and its implications for businesses, investors, and the overall financial reporting ecosystem.

 

The lecture began with an overview of INDAS, emphasizing its evolution and the need for convergence with global accounting standards. The speaker discussed the key differences between the previous Indian Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and INDAS. The speaker highlighted the reasons behind India's decision to converge with IFRS, emphasizing the benefits of a single set of global accounting standards. Attendees gained insights into how the adoption of IFRS has affected financial statements in terms of recognition, measurement, and disclosure. The lecture provided a practical understanding of the changes in reporting, including fair value measurements, revenue recognition, and impairment of assets. The lecture concluded with a discussion on future trends and developments in accounting standards globally. The workshop aimed to expose MCA students to the immense potential of data science, guiding them in placement preparation and hands-on technical implementation. Renowned industry experts Mr. Sonu Prakash and Mr. Chetan Prakash were the speakers for the event.  Mr. Sonu Prakash engaged students with a motivational talk focused on career prospects in the field of data science.Mr. Chetan Prakash provided a hands-on session focused on implementing data science concepts.The objective of this workshop is to provide an overview of basic data science tools and their importance in data analysis and visualization, as well as to explain why Python is the chosen language for data science and introduce its major features for data processing and modeling.he knowledge gained from this visit will significantly aid the MCA first-year students in their academic projects and future careers. The visit also fostered a greater understanding of how to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world scenarios, a crucial element as students transition into the professional IT world.

Rathore, fondly known as the "Tax Doctor," a Retired Associate Professor from Delhi University and a seasoned Taxation Practitioner on December 9, 2024 on the topic “Old vs. New Tax Regime: A Comparative Analysis and Its Impact on Ease of Doing Business” provided an in-depth exploration of India’s evolving tax landscape.

Dr. Rathore eloquently compared the features, benefits, and limitations of the old and new tax regimes, emphasizing their implications for businesses and individuals. He highlighted how the choice between the two regimes could influence financial planning, compliance costs, and the overall ease of doing business in India.

Dr. Rathore also shared practical insights drawn from his extensive experience, shedding light on tax-saving strategies, the impact of the regimes on entrepreneurial ventures, and government measures to promote a business-friendly environment. Excursion Trip to Lohagarh Farms: MBA 2024-26 Batch, I.T.S Ghaziabad

The excursion trip's primary objective was to allow students to relax, rejuvenate, and engage in experiential learning outside the classroom. A total of 196 students, along with 15+ faculty members, participated in the excursion, which aimed to promote teamwork, leadership, stress relief, and cultural exposure.

The trip was a perfect blend of learning, recreation, and adventure. Students participated in a range of traditional and modern activities, including:

Adventure Activities: Ziplining, ladder cross and rope courses that tested physical endurance and boosted confidence.

Team-Building Games: Tug of war, obstacle races, and group challenges that fostered collaboration and effective communication.

Cultural Engagement: Exposure to rural life through pottery making, camel rides, and folk music and dance performances.

Leisure and Relaxation: Open green spaces allowed students to unwind and socialize informally, strengthening interpersonal bonds.

The trip to Lohagarh Farms had several tangible and intangible benefits for the MBA students, including i)Teamwork and Collaboration: Activities required students to work in teams, promoting coordination, cooperation, and group problem-solving skills essential for management roles, ii) Leadership Development: Students took on leadership roles in various activities, enhancing their ability to guide and motivate others, iii)Stress Relief: A break from the academic routine helped students recharge mentally, leading to improved focus and well-being , iv)Cultural Awareness: Exposure to rural life activities allowed students to appreciate cultural diversity and its relevance in consumer behavior and business practices.

The trip was well-received by students and faculty alike. Students reported a positive experience, highlighting the team-building games and adventure activities as key highlights. Faculty members appreciated the holistic approach to experiential learning, noting the positive impact on student morale and camaraderie.

In conclusion, the excursion to Lohagarh Farms was a success, achieving its objectives of relaxation, personal growth, and experiential learning. It provided students with a platform to develop essential management skills like leadership, collaboration, and cultural sensitivity, which are critical for their professional development.

A CSR Activity : Quiz Competition and Talent Hunt by Utthan Club, I.T.S Ghaziabad

The Utthan Club of I.T.S Ghaziabad committed to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and community engagement, organized a Quiz Competition and Talent Hunt on December 5, 2024,

 

aimed at fostering learning, creativity, and confidence among school children. This event aligned with our mission to empower young minds and provide a platform for students to showcase their knowledge and talents. The school children were accompanied by their teachers.

The objectives of the activity were to encourage intellectual development and a spirit of healthy competition among school children, to provide a platform for students to exhibit their talents across diverse domains and to promote holistic development through fun, interactive, and educational activities.

The student volunteers of MBA along with Faculty Coordinator, Prof. Shilpi Rana conducted a Quiz Competition where all 40 students participated in the activity and the teams (2 members in each team) were scored based on accuracy, speed, and overall participation. The quiz highlighted the students' remarkable grasp of various subjects, with 3 teams emerging as the champions. The second activity was Talent Hunt in which participants performed singing, dancing and Recitation. The talent hunt unearthed exceptional skills, with the best 4 students receiving accolades for their outstanding performances. The winners were awarded with certificates and gifts by Dr. V N Bajpai, Director. Refreshments were also arranged for the school children and teachers.

The Quiz Competition and Talent Hunt organized by Utthan Club was a resounding success, meeting its objectives of inspiring and empowering school children. The event not only celebrated the talents and intellect of young minds but also reinforced our commitment to societal development.

The grand finale of Samvad-2024 for MCA programme (2022-24 batch) organized on December 4, 2024.

The topic of finale round was, “Impact of Emerging Technologies on Sustainable Environment and Living Creatures”.   At the outset of the event, Director–IT, Dr Sunil Kumar Pandey welcomed and motivated the participating students. He highlighted the need and importance of the communication and interpersonal skills for not only for placement of students but also for their holistic development. During his address, he pointed out the necessity of the group discussion and debating skill to grow in the career.

All the participating students show cased their communication skills, articulation skills, leadership ability, team spirit, their knowledge level and presentation skills, and they made the group discussion of high level that it became tough for jury members to finalize the winners. At this occasion faculty members of Department of IT and students of MCA programme (batch 2023-25) were present to be the witness of a very healthy and high level group discussion, on an important agenda for career of the students.

He further highlighted that Generative AI is a game-changer in marketing. It enables businesses to create personalized content, streamline content creation, gain deeper customer insights, engage in real-time, and harness predictive analytics. By leveraging artificial intelligence, brands can deliver highly targeted and relevant content. Generative AI can help build powerful, personable, personalized content and/or customer experiences by combining data analysis, natural language processing (NLP), and machine learning algorithms.

Institute of Technology & Science  organized an alumni talk on November 25, 2024 for the students of MBA 2024- 26 Batch.

The guest of the day was Ms. Shiksha Rawat- Marketing Manager at LG Electronics India Pvt Ltd and an alumna of ITS MBA batch of 2017-19. In her interaction with the students, Ms. Rawat nostalgically remembered her journey during the two-year program. She urged the students to actively groom themselves and become ready for corporate life ahead. She also inspired the students to take advantage of every opportunity for learning something new every day.

In her address, Ms. Rawat also detailed on her own journey with the LG Electronics India Pvt Ltd and highlighted the ways in which it improved her on professional and personal fronts. She discussed that being focused on one’s goal is the mantra for success and staying committed to the goal is the fuel to this journey. Ms. Shiksha made prudent use of anecdotes and stories to drive home the basic principles of success and engaged students in brief activities which were thoroughly enjoyed by the participants.

Skill Spark Forge: Igniting HR Excellence for MBA 2024-26 under METANOIA- The HR Club at I.T.S

The HR Club, METANOIA, of the Institute of Technology and Science, Ghaziabad, successfully organized an engaging event titled “Skill Spark Forge” on November 19, 2024 for the MBA 2024-26 batch students. This activity-based event was designed to nurture essential managerial skills such as communication, teamwork, and problem-solving through three exciting rounds: Human Knot, Blind Drawing, and Case Escape.

The event commenced with an inspiring welcome address by Dr. Uma Gulati, Chairperson, who motivated the participants to embrace the activities as opportunities for growth and collaboration. Her words set a positive and enthusiastic tone for the day.

For the Human Knot range a total of 4 teams comprising 10 members each worked together to untangle themselves from a complex human knot. This activity fostered patience, teamwork, and strategic thinking, teaching students the importance of collective effort. For the 2nd round Blind Drawing

Participants paired up, with one drawing an image at the back of other and they were attempting to draw the same image over another back. The task tested clarity in communication and the ability to follow directions, emphasizing trust and mutual understanding. The 3rd round Case Escape where individuals  were presented with a challenging case scenario requiring brainstorming and innovative problem-solving under time constraints. The activity encouraged critical thinking and showcased participants' ability to work effectively under pressure.

The winners were decided at the end of the activity where Sheetal Gaur bagged the winning prize , followed by Ayushi Somya as 1st Runner up and Shristy Sharma as 2nd runner up.

Dr. Smita Barik, Faculty Coordinator, concluded the event by distributing prizes to the winners, applauding their performance, and encouraging all participants for their enthusiasm and effort.

Participants developed key skills such as effective communication, team building, and brainstorming, which are critical for their academic and professional journeys. The event fostered a spirit of camaraderie, creative thinking, and leadership among students.

Skill Spark Forge was an enriching experience that left participants motivated and better prepared for real-world challenges. The HR Club extends its gratitude to the Chairperson, faculty coordinator, and all participants for making the event a grand success.
