Special Session on “Big Data & Hadoop” by Prof. T. V. Vijay Kumar,

An invited talk by Eminent Speaker "Prof. T. V. Vijay Kumar, Professor, School of Computer Systems Sciences, JNU Delhi"was organized on 3.2.2018, at I.T.S, Mohan Nagar, Ghaziabad. Before starting of the session, Prof. T. V. Vijay Kumar was warmly welcomed by Dr. Sunil Kr Pandey Director IT, by presented him a Sapling. Dr. Umang presented a brief about the Session and introducing the Guest Prof. T.V. Vijay Kumar with audience.

In this session, Prof. T. V. Vijay Kumar delivered talk on “Big Data & Hadoop”.The session included discussions on chronological evolution of Databases to Big Data, concepts of Heterogeneity, Autonomy, Architectural Models, Semantic &SyntaticHeterogenity, Ontology Based Data Integration, Data Mining and Web Mining, Clustering, Data Stream Management and deep insight of Analytics and its different variations. 
This event was in the series of Invited talks by national speakers of repute by Dept of IT of the institute with an objective to provide the detailed insight of the latest developments in technology, research issues and futuristic development. After the talk, Dr Sunil Kumar Pandey, Director IT felicitated to the Guest of the Day - Prof. T.V. Vijay Kumar, Professor, JNU, New Delhi at the Institute. Prof. T.V. Vijay Kumar also interacted with the faculties and answered the queries related with research& applications raised during the session. It was overall learning and knowledge sharing session for participating students & faculty.

C Club of Department of IT Conducted a Workshop on “C Programming” for MCA Students

C Club of Department of IT, in association with CSI Student Branch @ I.T.S, conducted a half-day workshop on “C Programming” for MCA students from 1.45pm-4.40pm. The objective of this workshop was to prepare students to code better by understanding programming best practices.

The workshop was taken by Prof Chandra Mani Sharma. He started the workshop with an interesting analogy of natural languages with programming languages. He explained the basic concepts of C programming including Data Types, Operators, Conditional Statements, Loops, Arrays, Pointers and Functions. Further, it was demonstrated in the workshop how to develop logic out of given problem and how to use different programming constructs to write the program.

The participants practiced these concepts in the lab and found it very useful. The workshop completed with lots of learning!

Management Faculty attended FDP on Teacher to Mentor

Prof. Nitin Saxena along with Prof. Ankur Ahuja from attended a Faculty Development Program on the theme “A journey from Teacher to Mentor” organized by Delhi School of Professional Studies & Research in association with Divine Group and Global FDP on 3rd February, 2018. The speaker for the session was Mr. Beni Kinha, Nector Factor. Mr. Beni is a famous trainer having more than 20 years experience in corporate training.

The session started with a small activity in which each participant are supposed to discuss their life experience with the neighbor participant. Then Mr. Beni invites each participant and asks each faculty to present a solution/ gist of the discussion. After all participants finished their presentation, Mr. Beni pointed on the retention power of brain and how different people perceived things in different manner.

IB Club – GLOCAL at I.T.S Ghaziabad organized ‘Quizzing Collada’ for MBA Students.

On 2nd February 2018, the IB club, popularly known as “GLOCAL”, organized ‘Quizzing Collada’ for MBA 2017-19 Batchstudents. The activity comprising of two rounds, was designed to give a platform to students where they can showcase their creative approach and knowledge of international trade of India. The first round consisted of a round based on MCQs related to International Business.

The activity witnessed excited participation of 75 students divided into 25 teams of 3 members each. Top 10 teams were selected for the second round where they were given the task of preparing a collage on the topic of ‘Changing Face of India’s International Trade’. To add to the challenge they were also given the task of solving jumbled words to gain more points. The students took active participation in the activity reflecting their resourcefulness and ingenuity in the collages they prepared on the topic. They used the available resources to display their understanding of the topic which brought forward the comprehension and expectations of today’s youth related to India’s International trade. The collages prepared by the students were assessed by the judge of the event Prof. NeetuPurohit, on the basis of creativity involved, affinity with the theme and presentation of the idea.

The second activity of the day involved a presentation by the students (in groups of 4) on the topic ‘IITF 2017- IB CLUB perspective’, in front of all the students of MBA I to share the experience and learning they gathered from their visit to the India International Trade Fair 2017.

The first prize winner of the ‘Quizzing Collada’ was the group comprising of Neha Agarwal, Shreya Gupta, Pooja Maurya. The second prize was secured by the group of Mr.Pramendra, Mr.Sumit and Ms.Isha. The winner of the group presentation on ‘IITF 2017- IB CLUB perspective’was the group of Ms.Mamta, Ms. Anjali, Mr. Raj and Mr.GauravArya. Honourable Director Management Dr. Ajay Kumar and Chairperson- MBA Dr. D.K. Pandey felicitated the winners with attractive prizes and certificates.

The activity under the guidance of IB Club Mentor, Prof. Parul Gupta,was conducted by members of team GLOCAL comprising of Ms.Richa, Ms.Anjali, Mr.Shailesh, Ms.Suhani, Ms.Shiksha, Mr.Udit, Mr.Vishal, Ms.Shreyamani, Mr.Abhayand Mr.Akash Sharma.

Management Students attended debate on "BUDGET 2018 - The ultimate revolution or disaster".

Management students of I.T.S Ghaziabad took part in a live debate on Budget 2018 organised by AAJTAK at their studio located at Noida,U.P. on 01st Feb. 2018.

The name of the show was “Jaitley Ka Pariksha” which was broadcasted live at 10:00PM. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley presented the general budget in the Lok Sabha for the year 2018-19. During this time, he made many announcements, including doubling of the income of farmers, providing medical insurance of five lakh to 10 million poor families, free gas connections to eight million poor women and others including free electricity to 40 million poor houses. But now the question was, is this budget of Mr. Jaitley coming true to the expectations of the people? Has Mr. Jaitley passed the examination which is to be evaluated by the representatives of different sections of people like agriculturists, economists, industrialists, common people and politicians?

To discuss on these questions there were two politicians representing BJP and Congress respectively. Dr. Sambit Patra was representing BJP and Mr. Gaurav was representing Congress. Other than them, there were experts of various departments namely Mr. B.M. Singh, Mr. Sowraj Singh, Mr. Joy Kisan and many others who came and took part in the debate to share their views divided in group of three. The experts were also given the privilege to rate the budget by scoring it out of 10.The anchor for the night was Ms. Swetha Singh.

Different topics of discussion was agriculture, booster for sluggish economy, scope of healthcare, Industrialization and the implementation of the budget.

The key points discussed during the forum were about the expectations of common man from union budget, key challenges in front of government and expectations of Corporates form Union Budget 2018.

The co panellist were Mr. Ashok Kumar, BJP Spokeperson, Mr. Ghanendra Congress Spokeperson, representatives from KISAN SANGH.  The session was live telecasted on ZEE SALAAM upto 11:00 am.

Zee Business Modi Boosters-Budget Adda 2018: A live open forum of Zee Business

Institute of Technology and Science, Mohan Nagar, Ghaziabad attended an open forum telecasted live by Zee Business – A leading Business News and Current Affairs channel on 1st February, 2018. Around Fifty ITS students including PGDM and MBA 1st year participated along with Prof. Hitesh Chadha and Prof. Parul Gupta by reaching at the venue of live shoot at Central Park, Inner Circle, Connaught Place, New Delhi. Zee provided Cabs to pick and drop and we reached around 19 hours and returned back by 23 hours to the institute after having diiner provided by the channel officials.

The theme title of this initiative by Zee Business was Modi Boosters-Budget Adda-2018 which was to be telecasted live starting at 20 hours till 21:30 hours. It was an open forum especially designed for the public to attend and participate in the discussion by various panelists on Budget-2018.It was the day when Budget was announced in Parliament by honorable Finance Minister Mr. Arun Jaitly.

The live open session was formatted in two sections where two sets of panelists including Congress spokesperson Mr.Alok Sharma,, Dr. Rajiv Kumar –Vice Chairman Planning Commission on Video Conferencing Mr. Taneja from Kotak Mahindra,Ms.Rinki Dhingra-Senior Vice President of Yes Bank,Mr. Chawla-a senior independent observer of financial affairs and many more experts in this area. The major focus of discussions was on:

1. Increased Fiscal Deficits

2. Short and Long term Capital Gains structure post budget announcement and its effects

3. Slag in Real Estate and other allied Industries

4. Impact of Common Budget and rail budget announcements on lower ands middle class in Indian Society

5. Minimum Support Price (1.5%) and its impact on Agricultural Farming in near future

6. Congress Vs BJP comparison in reducing the general and food inflation

7. Neglected sectors in current budget

8. Demonetization and GST after effects in framing current budget by BJP Government

9. New health Insurance Scheme for vulnerable sector up to five lacs as the largest Social Security System ever launched by any country in the world.

Finally the session lasted for one and half hours live and students and public were allowed to ask relevant questions from the panels .ITS students participated in Q&A session with full zeal and enthusiasm.

Celebration of Guru Ravidas Jyanti

Guru Ravidas was a mystic saint-poet, philosopher, poet, social reformer of the North Indian Bhakti movement. He is said to be the founder of 21st Centuary’s Ravidassia religion. He wrote various devotional songs and verses. 41 of his popular songs and poems are also written in Guru Granth Sahib.

Department of I.T., I.T.S, Mohan Nagar, Ghaziabad celebrated Guru Ravidas Jyanti on 31st January, 2018. While addressing the students, Director-IT, Dr. Sunil Kr. Pandey said that we should not forget the contributions of the Saints like Guru Ravidas for his country. He played a pivotal role in preaching social harmony and stood against caste discrimination and social injustice. MCA-Chairperson, Prof. Puja Dhar appreciated all the students who on a very short notice had prepared for this occasion with their poems and details about Guru Ravidas. Prof. Smita Kansal, Coordinator-MCA also appreciated all the students who participated on this occasion and said that we should feel proud on the saints like Guru Ravidas. Other Faculty members including Dr. Umang Singh and Dr. Vidushi Singh also shared their words about Guru Ravidas.

On this occasion students of MCA participated with full enthusiasm. Some of the students spoke about the life history of Guru Ravidas and many of them chanted his famous poems. Overall the occasion was a tribute to Guru Ravidas.

Library club organized an activity “In it to win it” for MBA students.

Library club - MBA organized an event, “In it to win it” for MBA (2017 – 19) batch on 30th January, 2018. In the activity, First event was “Creative Hands - Poster Making Competition”, organised in the Library in which students were required to choose a contemporary theme from the Newspaper Articles available in the library. They were given the old newspapers also which they used in a creative manner for designing the posters All participating student teams prepared very colorful and creative posters. The teams presented their posters to the panel of Judges which comprised of Dr. Gopal Krishna Dwivedi, Prof. Neetu Purohit and Prof.Shikha Arora.

The next activity was “Tic-Tac-Toe” Game organised in the lawn in front of old Auditorium. This was a very engaging learning cum fun activity based on Planning and Spontaneity in order to achieve the set goals.All the participating teams participated enthusiastically and gave their best to win the Prizes.

Winners were awarded with exciting prizes (Pen-drives and Mugs) and certificates.

Dr. Vidushi Singh attended SPOC felicitation workshop

I had attended SPOC Felicitation Workshop at IIT Kanpur Outreach Centre, Noida on 30th January 2018. Objective of the workshop was to felicitate SPOCs of those colleges in which students were top scorer and also to look for the feedback of the December 2017 NPTEL courses. Prof. Satyaki Roy National Coordinator, NPTEL, IIT Kanpur, Ms. Lalty Dutta, Project Manager, NPTEL, IIT Kanpur, Ms. AnganaSenguptaCoordinator, Local Chapter, IIT Kanpur, Ms. Bharathi, Senior Project Officer, NPTEL, IIT Madras, Prof. Andrew, IIT Madras, Prof. Pratap IIT Madras and Dr. VineetKansal, Dean, AKTU along with SPOC’s of Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir were presented. 
Before beginning of the session, Prof. Satyaki Roywarmly welcomed the gathering. Prof. Satyaki Roy briefed about details of NPTEL, how and when it has been formed, before it was planned to just deliver video lectures, later on it has been shifted to online certification. He also briefed about achievements of NPTEL till date like 30,000+ video hours, 371+million NPTEL website view, 271+ million you tube views etc. He also shared the statistics of number of students and faculty participation from initial years to Dec 2017. He also communicated how these courses helpedstudents in their placements.

Ms. Bharathi, Senior Project Officer, NPTEL, IIT Madras, Prof. Andrew, IIT Madras and Prof. Pratap IIT Madras had discussed about the academic issues in the last semester like requirement of any course which is not provided by NPTEL and is demanded by students, syllabus of existing courses and also operational issues as well.

At the end SPOC of various colleges were felicitated by Prof. Satyaki Roy National Coordinator, NPTEL, IIT Kanpur, Ms. Lalty Dutta, Project Manager, NPTEL, IIT Kanpur, Ms. AnganaSenguptaCoordinator, Local Chapter, IIT Kanpur, Ms. Bharathi, Senior Project Officer, NPTEL, IIT Madras, Prof. Andrew, IIT Madras, Prof. Pratap IIT Madras and Dr. VineetKansal, Dean, AKTU.
It was totally an interactive session where SPOC from various universities and institutes ofrepute discussed about the various courses provided by NPTEL and also gave their suggestionsto make these courses more effective for masses. Overall it was a good learning experience about operational of NPTEL online courses.

Prof. Satyaki RoyNational Coordinator, NPTEL, IIT Kanpur, Ms. Lalty Dutta, Project Manager, NPTEL, IIT Kanpur,Ms. AnganaSenguptaCoordinator, Local Chapter, IIT Kanpur were eminent guest for the session.NPTEL is an acronym for National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning which is an initiative by seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras and Roorkee) and Indian Institute of Science (IISc) for creating course contents in engineering and science.

Before beginning of the session, Prof. Satyaki Roy,Ms. Lalty Dutta, andMs. AnganaSenguptawere warmlywelcomed by Dr. Sunil Kr Pandey, Director IT.Director IT Dr. Sunil Kumar Pandeyalso delivered welcomeaddress in which he has communicated about need of learning beyond classroom and how MOOC and New Age Teaching Pedagogies are helpful to the students in this requirement.
Prof. Satyaki Roy briefed about details of NPTEL, how and when it has been formed, before it was planned to just deliver video lectures, later on it has been shifted to online certification. ‘Parivartan’ – The Slum Education Programme

28th January, 2018 activity of ‘Parivartan’- the Slum Education Programme, a CSR initiative of ITS, Ghaziabad was an extended celebration of Republic Day along with the regular talk and a surprise test of the memory of slum buds. Volunteers of the day Ankush Mehta, Kajal Soam, Madhulika Kumari, Minakshi Singh, Abhinav Gupta, Alok Prakash and George Rudolf Henry started the class with the prayer and informed the children about the highlights of the day.

The first session of the day was on a patriotic theme ‘Kuchh Yaad Unhe Bhi Kar Lo’ during which the children were told why Republic Day is celebrated and how India had achieved its freedom. The pictures of the top ten freedom fighters of India were displayed including – Mahatama Gandhi, Subhash Chandra Bose, Bhagat Singh, Chandra Shekhar Azad, Baal Gangadhar Tilak, Rani Laxmibai, Jawahar Lal Nehru, Indira Gandhi etc. Their contribution and life history was discussed in brief. Key terms like ‘Republic’, ‘Constitution’ and ‘Surprise’ were elaborated with easy descriptions.

The second session of the day was an interesting Surprise Test. The children were shown the pictures of these top ten freedom fighters and then these pictures were removed and the children were asked to recall the names and write them on a piece of paper. The quick and correct responses were appreciated with fabulous prizes like fancy water-bottles, steel tiffin, fiber tumblers etc. Two bags full of clothes were also distributed among the children. These clothes were donated by the MCA alumnus Mr. Gautam Bagga. The class concluded with the distribution of Maggi Noodles, Sketch Pens and Cadbury éclairs to all the children. Dr. Gopal Krishna Dwivedi guided and accompanied the volunteers as the faculty coordinator of CSR Club.

Utthan Lab Activity : 69th Republic day Celebration

25th January, 2018 activity of Utthan Lab, a CSR initiative of ITS, Ghaziabad was an advance celebration of the Republic Day along with a practical session in Computer Labs and an Essay Writing Competition. Volunteers of the day – Richa Tyagi, Rashi Tyagi, Prabhat Awasthi, Nitin Kumar, Ankush Mehta, Abhay Gupta, Purvi Mehrotra, Konika Tyagi, Vidhi Yadav, Rajat Gupta, Shashi, Baby Naaz Parveen, Novika Chadha and Bikram Parajuli started the day with the brief on the day’s activities and the competition.

The talk of the day was on ‘Ye Kaha Aa Gaye Hum’ during which the comparison of the past and the present was made. The earlier life without mobile phones and now, attention given to parents and elderly people earlier and now, the earlier spirit of helping the one in distress and now were discussed with recent and easy to recall examples. The children were advised to restore all good things of the past while enjoying the best ones of today.

The second session of the day was a practical session in the computer labs. The children were taken to Lab 1 and Lab 2 where the task was to search and explore important office bearers of the central govt of India. The children entered the designations into Google and read the details on Wikipedia. They mainly searched for the Finance Minister, Defence Minister, President, Vice President and the Prime Minister of India. They also browsed about the Chief Minister of UP.

The last session of the day was an Essay Writing Competition during which all the children shared their views declaring – ‘Mera Desh Mera Abhiman’. They not only praised their country but also identified the areas of concern and accepted the challenges. More than 50 little writers were chosen as winners of fabulous prizes like Multipurpose Holders, Water Bottles, Sippers, Fiber Plates etc. The activity concluded with the snacks and the cold drinks served to all. All the children were gifted with balloons, Maggi Noodles and Sketch Pens. Dr. Gopal Krishna Dwivedi guided the volunteers and enjoyed the activity as the faculty coordinator of Utthan Club.

Management Faculty attended International Panel Discussion conducted by AICTE, New Delhi

Management Department faculty members and students attended an international panel discussion conducted by AICTE, New Delhi in collaboration with NDIM on 25th Jan, 2018. The panel was lead by Prof. Dr. Ullrich Guenther and Dr. Susan Gale Wintermuth from Lafansa University, Germany.  The event started with the introduction of AICTE and a the introduction of faculty programme, focusing on how to train students to be a future leader not merely a manager. This was backed by a presentation by Prof. Dr. Ullrich Guenther on Effective Leadership and communication in Today’s Business Scenario in which there were a few highlights, i.e. one leader can be successful in one country but could not be successful in other, planning and concepts of time, style of conflicts and criticism, personal vs impersonal style of communication, hierarchy and most important one is that the happiness of the employees is also important.

The next in line was a presentation by Dr. Susan Gale Wintermuth who talked about Miscommunications that happen. The highlights of her presentation were miscommunication at the top level disputes and arbitration was suggested as best way to solve the same.Examples like DAIMLER CHRYSLER showed that because of miscommunications even the multinationals fail. To be flexible and notice & understand the cultural difference in the only way to be prepared for working in a foreign land. The questions that were put in front of the panel were, How is Indian style of communication different from German style? What is Indirect feedback? How to bridge the gap of misunderstandings The panel discussion ended with the suggestion to “PICK THE ONE MOST SUCCESSFUL STYLE OF LEADERSHIP AND USE IT IN YOUR OWN STYLE”.

Faculty and students were benefited by attending the Panel Discussion.
