5th August 2018, activity of ‘Parivartan’- the Slum Education Programme, a CSR initiative of ITS, Ghaziabad, was a day that seemed to be against us. There was the fear of all our plans being thrown into disarray due to the torrential rain. However the Luck smiled on us, as we were able to take refuge in the garage of the Fire Brigade station, where some arrangements had been made for the kanwariyas.

The volunteers for the day were Hitesh Sharma, Aprajita Srivastav, Samina Khatoon, Utkarsh Yadav, Anand Kumar Jha, Anjali Kumari and Anjali Singh.

The first session was started by Hitesh, who began by reminding the children that it was International Friendship Day. They were told to wish one another on this occasion. Hitesh also emphasized on what being a good friend is all about by telling the children a story.

In the next session Aprajita decided to explain the concept of solar and lunar eclipses to the students. To the wide eyed wonder of the students, she explained how eclipses occur and how we can differentiate solar and lunar eclipses.

Finally Samina came forward to hold a session on spellings. The children joined in enthusiastically to brush up on the spellings of words.

Despite the rain and the occasional disturbances from the kanwars on the adjacent road, it turned out to be a useful exercise for the children as they came to learn several new things.

The activity concluded with the distribution of “Butter Bite biscuits” and “Mango Bite toffees”. Dr. Indraneel Mandal accompanied and motivated the student volunteers. Prof. Lokesh Upreti guided the volunteers in the conduct of the programme as the faculty coordinator of CSR Club - Parivartan.
