Prof Chandra Mani Sharma was Invited as Resource Person to Conduct Two Days Workshop on “Data Science using Python” IKGPTU, Main Campus, Kapurthala, Punjab

Prof Chandra Mani Sharma conducted two days workshop on “Data Science using Python” at I.K. Gujral Punjab Technical University (a Govt. State Technical University of Punjab), Main Campus, Kapurthala during 9th – 10th March, 2018. In this workshop, the students of B.Tech (CSE) and M.Tech (CSE) participated. 
Data Science is an emerging area of research and development. In recent years, the demand of the professionals in the field has witnessed an exponential growth. It is going to play a pivotal role in the on-going AI revolution. The objective of the workshop was to provide the participants a hands-on exposure on Python programming and its applications in solving problems using machine learning and other approaches. 

The day -1 of the workshop had sessions on basics of Python programming including data structures (lists, tuples, dictionaries, sets etc), control structures, iterations, creation of modules, introduction to Anaconda & Spyder, introduction to various packages for Data Science such as numpy, scipy, matplotlib, pandas, sklearn etc. 
The day-2 of the workshop covered basics of machine learning including supervised, unsupervised and reinforcement learning. Overview of various data sets available for experimentation, analyzing and & visualizing data, application of KNN, LDA/PCA, SVM, Bayes Classification etc., evaluating different techniques, quality bench marks for machine learning such as confusion matrix, f1-score, recall value etc, introduction to deep learning etc. The workshop was concluded with a Q/A session on Data Science and future directions. 
Workshop was very useful for the participants and it was highly appreciated by participants and the University administration.

Participation of I.T.S Ghaziabad in “Gender Equality Summit 2018”.

Prof. Shikha Arora, faculty from PG Management Department of I.T.S Ghaziabad and PGDM student Jhalak Aggarwal, along with Director (Management), Dr. Ajay Kumar attended Gender Equality Summit 2018 titled “Gender Equality : A Key Differentiator for Sustainable Growth” on 9th March , 2018 at The Lalit Hotel, New Delhi. The objective of the Summit was to provide a platform to discuss collective responsibility and exploring pathways towards gender inclusive outcomes.

The welcome address was delivered by Dr. Uddesh Kohli, Senior Advisor UNGC. Summit Overview was presented by Ms. Vaishali Sinha, Chairperson GES 2018 & Director, ReNew Power. Other eminent speakers in the Inaugural Session included Mr. N. Venkatram, Managing Partner & CEO Deloitte India, Ms. Lise Kingo, CEO, UNGC, New York (Video Presentation) and Ms. Nishtha Satyam, Deputy Representative, UN Women MCO for India, Bhutan, Maldives and Sri Lanka.

Vote of Thanks was presented by Mr. Kamal Singh, Executive Director, UN GCNI.

The Summit had three plenary sessions – Plenary 1 was focused on “Gender Mainstreaming”. The discussion was based on the importance of Data collection and Approaches of various stakeholders for inclusion and progress of women. The session was moderated by Ms. Sangeeta Talwar, Managing Partner, Flyvision Consulting and the panelists were Ms. Renu Satti, CEO, Paytm Payments Bank, Mr. Abhimanyu Singh, Bank of America, Ms. Lakshmi Venkataraman, Founding trustee and Executive Vice President, Bharatiya Yuva Shakti Trust and Mr. Pradeep Nair, CEO & Regional Director, Ford Foundation for India, Nepal and Sri Lanka. The selected case studies were also presented on Best Practices in Gender Equality.

Plenary 2 was on the theme “Accelerating and scaling gender specific initiatives”. The session was moderated by Dr. Shalini Sarin, SVP HR-BG Professional, CSR &BoP Leader-Lighting, Philips, Netherland and the panelists were Ms. Aloka Majumdar, Senior VP & Head of Corporate Sustainability, HSBC India, Ms. Bhavani Balasubramaniam, Partner & Diversity & Inclusion Leader, Deloitte India, Dr. Neelu Rohmetra , Director , IIM, Sirmaur and Dr. Shikha Sharma , Founder & Managing Director, Nutri-Health Systems Pvt Ltd.

The stories of women’s struggle for equality and the various dynamic initiatives undertaken for their advancement were shared by Ms Chetna Sinha, Founder, Mann Deshi Foundation and Ms. Shrishti Bakshi, Founder and Managing Director of Cross Bow Miles.

Plenary 3 was on the theme “Transition to Policy Development”. The session was moderated by Ms. Shweta Rajpal Kohli, Country Director, Govt. Affairs & Public Policy, India & South Asia, Salesforce and the panelists were , Ms. Gayathri Ramamurthy, HR Business Partner and D&I Lead, Capgemini, Ms. Neha Barjatya, CEO, Google Internet Saathi, Ms. Huzan Mistry, Strategic Business Head, National Stock Exchange, Ms. Nishtha Satyam, Deputy Representative UN Women MCO for India, Bhutan, Maldives and Sri Lanka and Ms. Ratna Anjan Jena , Statistical Adviser, Ministry of Women and Child Development.

The Summit concluded with a Valedictory session and the Valedictory address was delivered by Dr. Yasmin Ali Haque, UNICEF Representative in India. The session focused on the learning from the previous sessions and the way forward to bring women participation in all spheres from board room and corporate offices to political arena.

Dr. Umang and Prof Smita Kansal attended International Workshop on “Evolutionary Algorithms and Applications” during 9th – 10th March 2018 at South Asian University, Delhi. The purpose of Workshop “Evolutionary Algorithms and Applications (With main focus to Multi-Objective, Many-Objective and Bilevel Problems)” was to train the faculty members, researchers, industry delegates in the research trends in evolution of algorithms in real life applications, so that new dimensions of research and commercial products can be produced in an optimal way including different aspects of EAs.

The workshop was focused to promote scientific interchange among researchers and practitioners in all related areas of algorithms development and show the participants how the research applications can be developed and solved using these concepts.

‘Parivartan’ – The Slum Education Programme

4th March, 2018 activity of ‘Parivartan’- the Slum Education Programme, a CSR initiative of ITS, Ghaziabad was a knowledge packed class on various occupations and professionals. The children also learnt some basic manners and etiquettes.  Volunteers of the day Shashi, Pooja Mourya, Shefali Gupta, Prateek Dixit, Prateek Srivastava, Lokesh Kumar, Shweta Sharma, Swapna Dey and George Rudolf Henry started the class with the prayer and informed the children about the highlights of the day. 

The first session of the day was on ‘Professions and Professionals’ during which the children were told about various occupations and professionals. They were informed about the job profiles of a doctor, engineer, dentist, gynecologist, electrician, plumber, pilot, magician, musician etc. 

The second session of the day was on ‘Good Habits and Good Manners’ during which the children learnt basic etiquettes. They practiced saying thank you, sorry, it’s ok, excuse me etc.  PGDM senior batch volunteers Ms. Shweta Sharma, Ms. Swapna Dey and Ms. Shruti Khandelwal had brought cookies and chocolates for the slum buds who were overjoyed to see their both the hands full of goodies. Ms. Swapna celebrated her recent placement by bringing Haldiram’s Delicacies too. 

The class of the day concluded with the distribution of Haldiram’s Takatak and Melody eclairs. Dr. Gopal Krishna Dwivedi accompanied and guided the volunteers as the faculty coordinator of CSR Club.

Faculty and students of Management Dept. of I.T.S Ghaziabad attended “India – Korea Business Summit”

Management faculty, Dr. Rajeev Johri and Ms. Bhavna Bhardwaj along with students of PGDM and MBA, attended a day long summit on “The India-Korea Business Summit”, at The Taj Palace, Dhaula Kuan, Delhi. The summit was organized by Department of Commerce and Industry, Government of India in association with Confederation of Indian Industries (CII). The summit witnessed a varied participation from academia, corporate and Government officials. The inaugural session was graced with the presence of Honourable Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs, Shri Arun Jaitely. Shri Arun Jaitely’s invigorating address covering key policies and issues provided a momentum for the day long discussions on Indo – Korean strategic business relations.

There were six sessions that were running simultaneously, covering Automobiles, Textiles, Food processing, Electronics system design & Manufacturing, skill Development (ESDM), Chemical and Technology and innovation (including start - ups).

The sessions focussed on the current policy and regulatory framework at central and state levels for creating an investment friendly environment for foreign companies. The representatives from different states talked about the initiatives taken up by them for providing an ease in doing business in their respective states.

I.T.S Ghaziabad conducted Webinar on "Leveraging Human Capital".

Management Department of I.T.S Ghaziabad conducted webinar for Faculty members of Human Resource and General Management areas on 26th February, 2018. The speaker for the webinar was Mr. K. Ramkumar. Mr. K. Ramkumar is the founder of Leadership Centre, an organisation dedicated to building world class thought and practice in the domain of Leadership Consulting, Research and Development. He is retired as the Executive Director on the Board of ICICI Bank. He was on the Boards of ICICI Prudential Life Insurance and ICICI Ventures. Prior to his retirement he was the President of ICICI Foundation, ICICI Groups CSR arm. 

He shared his thoughts on Leadership development with specific emphasis on how to help individuals expand their leadership capabilities and organisations strengthen their leadership pipeline. Mr Ramkumar said that Leveraging human capital is not about models, forms, policies, processes and systems; it is more about creating an environment where human beings voluntarily deploy their best, day after day. He talked about number of topical subjects including motivation, capability, learning, culture, performance and leadership. He presented an incredible amount of scholarship- drawing from experts across disciplines in psychology, history, philosophy and business. 

He also answered the queries of participants. The webinar was attended by Dr. Ajay Kumar, Dr. V N Bajpai, Dr. D K Pandey, Dr. Manoj Kumar Jha, Prof. Bhawna Bharadwaj, Prof. Shikha Arora, Dr. Indraneel Mondal, Prof. Hitesh Chadha, Prof. Ritu Saxena and Prof. Jyotsana Vaid.

Parivartan’ – The Slum Education Programme

25th February, 2018 activity of ‘Parivartan’- the Slum Education Programme, a CSR initiative of ITS, Ghaziabad was an advance and grand celebration of Holi along with regular teaching and learning. Volunteers of the day Pramendra Singh Tomar, Soma Roy, Pankaj Prasad, Nainsi Yadav, Anumeha Srivastava, Tanuj Tyagi, Nitin Kumar, Navdeep Chawla, and George Rudolf Henry started the class with the prayer and informed the children about the highlights of the day.

The advance celebration of Holi started with the decoration of the spot with Gulaal and balloons. The volunteers were looking fabulous with the Holi caps on their head. The children were told why Holi is celebrated. The story of Hiranyakashyap, Prahlad and Holika was narrated in brief with the moral that goodness and good people always survive all dangers and conspiracies. The children were also told to utilize the occasion of Holi to forget the enmity and restore brotherhood.

The second session of the day was on GK during which Prof. Gourvi explained the English Hindi names of the President, the Prime-minister and the Chief Minister along with their roles and powers. She also made the children learn the names of the present office bearers of the aforementioned offices.

PGDM senior batch volunteer Mr. Navdeep Chawla had brought one full carton of Cadbury Perk chocolates for the children out of his pleasure of getting placed recently. The celebration concluded with the distribution of Pichkaaris, balloons, Holi caps, and Perk Chocolates. Dr. Gopal Krishna Dwivedi accompanied and guided the volunteers as the faculty coordinator of CSR Club.

Industrial Visit for MBA (17-19) students to Coca Cola (Moon Beverages Ltd.), Greater Noida.

I.T.S Ghaziabad Organized Industry Visit for MBA (2017-19) batch students to Coca Cola (Moon Beverages Ltd.), Greater Noida on 24th February, 2018. The students were accompanied by Dr. Anusha Agarwal and Prof. Parul Gupta. The visit to Asia’s only and second in the entire world ‘Happiness Factory’-Coca Cola was full of knowledge and amusement.

The students and faculty members reached the campus of Moon Beverages around 10:00 AM and were warmly received by company representatives. The visit started with a cool welcome in the form of a fridge full of Coca Cola drinks for everyone. The students were then asked to visit a wall where fun facts about the main products of the company were presented in an attractive manner. After a brief video highlighting the facts about the company, the excited visitors were taken to various sections of the plant where they were explained the functioning and the processes which the students were able to see directly as well.

The students asked countless questions about the drinks and the processes along with the controversial issues related to the products which were responded with facts and pleasure. The representatives showed and gave information about the various shapes of the bottles of Coca Cola since its introduction and their respective reasons. The last phase of the visit was a brief about the various CSR initiatives which the company has undertaken.

Students were overjoyed by clicking a selfie with the iconic polar bear which added more fun to their day. The visit ended with all the students satisfied with the learning experience gained during the day.

Young Talent Hunt – 2018.

I.T.S PG Management Campus witnessed an exemplary success of Grand Finale Young Talent Hunt- 2018 - Inter college Quiz Series on 23rd February, 2018 with a huge participation of 302 students from 53 colleges of Delhi, Ghaziabad, Meerut, Hapur, Pilkhuwa, Babugarh, Sikandrabad, Dadri Bulands & nearby areas. 

Level 1 of this competition was initiated in the month of September, 2017 for graduate students at the respective colleges/institutes and concluded with a GRAND FINALE at I.T.S, Mohan Nagar, Ghaziabad.

 The mega show- GRAND FINALE- YTH-2018 kicked off in the morning of 23rd February, 2018 with huge registration of 302 students, 15 teachers & parents from 53 participating colleges/institutes. The opening ceremony of CHANAKAYA AUDITORIUM was the curtain raiser of this mega show. The show started with lamp lighting of Maa Sarawati by Director Management Dr. Ajay Kumar, Dr. Sunil Kumar Pandey- Director IT, Prof. Nitin Saxena & Prof. Ankur Ahuja, Event Convener and faculties of other colleges & institutes. 

Dr. Ajay Kumar, Director Management- I.T.S Mohan Nagar, addressed the participants in his speech he highlighted that one should not feel de -motivated after losing a competition rather one should look forward for a positive aspect related to it. Prof. Nitin Saxena presented the overview of the event and sequence of the program. After the inaugural ceremony, three written elimination rounds with two semi- final rounds were conducted by MBA students, coordinated by Mr. Rahul Kamboj (Alumni MBA15-17), Ms. Sakshi Panchal (MBA 16-18) & Ms Divya (MBA 17-19). 

Dr. G.K Diwedi and Prof. Shikha Arora conducted Employability session for the eliminated students from round 1. Ms. Rekha Sundriyal coordinated campus round of the students.The Partcipants energized 06 finalist participants with a loud applause for their out of the box skills and show cased the event as a great mix of talent, energy and enthusiasm. 

The Champion’s trophy with cash prize of Rs. 10000 was lifted by Shiksha Sehgal from Kalka Institute as first winner, Delhi, Dushyant Singh from Rukmani Devi Institute, Delhi bagged second position with a prize money of Rs.7500, Vipul Ahlawat, CAEHS- Meerut grabbed third prize with cash prize of Rs.5000. The next 03 consolation cash prizes of Rs.1000 were won by Saurabh from Agarsen PG College , Sikandrabad, Tomis from D.N College, Meerut, Rashi Garg from DIRD, Delhi. 

The event was well co ordinated by Prof. Nitin Saxena and Prof. Ankur Ahuja.

Special Session byMr Amitabh Verma, Director India, Caipos, was organized by Department of IT on 21st February 2018 at I.T.S, Mohan Nagar, Ghaziabad.The session began with welcome of guest by Dr Sunil Kr Pandey Director-IT by presented him a Sapling. While welcoming, Mr Amitabh Verma who was invited as Resource Person, Director-IT discussed about the importance of “Information learning & knowledge sharing” session and how this session would be beneficial for MCA Students in their bright future.

In this session, Mr Amitabh Verma discussed about cloud computing and its related applications. He discussed abouttechnology transformation since last twenty years andpresented a focused discussion on Career options inJobs Profiles. He suggested students to focus on technical as well as interpersonal skills.
This was an interactive & knowledge enriching session.The session was organized in series of efforts to create a platform for MCA Students to meet, listen & interact with the practitioners and experts who have contributed immensely in their domain. Mr. Amitabh Verma also interacted with Students and answered the queries raised during the session.
DrUmang, Coordinator of this session, concluded the session closing remarks and delivered vote of thanks.It was informative and learning session all participating MCA Students.

Guest Session By Dr. Sujata Menon Kapila

 Department of I.T. organized a Guest Session on “"Self Confidence/Reliance and Motivation: Towards Bright Future" @ ITS, Ghaziabad on Tuesday, 20st February 2018 for MCA-IV Semester Students. Dr. Sujata Menon Kapila, Founder, Joyful Living was the resource person for this session. The objective of this talk was to make students more confident and self-reliance so that they can achieve success in their life easily. Dr.Sujata talked about super conscious, conscious and sub conscious minds. Faculty members and students were requested to do 6 Super Conscious Living Exercises with the help of Ms. Malvika. While addressing the students, Dr. Sujata discussed with the students that they should take care of four things in their life (i) Keep body healthy (ii) Have a good control of emotions (iii) Set goals in life (start with smaller goals and work rigorously to achieve those goals) (iv) Stop Expectations . We have to be gratitude in our life for the things which we are having.

She also briefed students about importance of affirmation and manifestation. She communicated to the students that “Visualize your goals and start living with these goals, write it down in a piece of paper and keep this into practice” by doing honest effort and manifestation you will do wonders in your life.

Expert talk by Mr. Inder Raj Ahluwalia for management students.

Management Department at I.T.S Ghaziabad organized an Expert Talk by Mr. Inder Raj Ahluwalia, who is a renowned Travel Journalist and Author.  The talk was conducted in two parts. In the first part, the speaker narrated his experiences and learnings from his enriched career in travel. This part of talk was to motivate the students to consider travel as a career option. 

In the second part of the talk Mr. Ahluwalia talked about possible career opportunities in Travel, Tourism, Food, Heritage, Aviation and writing columns on travel and tourism. 

Mr. Ahluwalia also displayed his books “Meet me at the Border” and “Travels with my Turban” to the students and faculty. Prof. C.K Sabharwal also motivated the students to choose Travel as the career option. Session ended with question answer round, in which enthusiastic students clarified their doubts and sought guidance of the eminent speaker. The event was well coordinated by Prof. Ankur Ahuja and Dr. Shuchita Singh.

The children were taught about Simple Interest in Math and Present, Past and Future Tenses in English. Volunteers of the day Konika Tyagi, Pooja Agarwal, Arifa Sahiba, Nikhil Kumar Mahaseth, Nandesh Singh, Meghal Jain, Shubham Tiwari, Rizwan Ali, Apurva Tyagi, Niranjan Singh Bhaisora, Richa Sharma, Anurag Kushwaha and George Rudolf Henry started the class with the prayer and informed the children about the highlights of the day.

The first session of the day was on Simple Interest in Math during which Prof. Gourvi explained simple methods of calculating the interest. Initially she explained the concept, later she invited the children to do the sums on interest on the board. The second session of the day was on English Grammar during which the children were told the importance of Tenses. Three main types of tenses – Present, Past and Future were also explained for them with simple examples.  MBA Volunteers Apurva Tyagi and Nirajan Singh Bhaisora had brought the packets of the special éclairs for the children. Dr. Gopal Krishna Dwivedi guided the volunteers as the faculty coordinator of CSR Club.
