‘Parivartan’ – The Slum Education Programme

19-08-18

19th August 2018 activity of ‘Parivartan’- the Slum Education Programme, a CSR initiative of ITS, Ghaziabad, was a day dominated by the dark clouds in the sky. The joy and enthusiasm of the Independence Day celebrations the previous week ensured that the number of children was more than usual.

The volunteers for the day were Aru Bansal, Shaswat Sinha, Priyanshi Gupta, Vaibhav Hemrajani, Arindam Ghosh and Diksha Rai.

In the first session, Aru taught the children about mountains - how they were formed; the geographical spread of the Himalayas and some of the main peaks therein; how ice from the glaciers melts to give rise to the rivers. The learners were not entirely knowledgeable in this, but they listened intently and enthusiastically participated in the Q&A session that followed.

The next session dealt briefly with traffic rules, especially with regard to crossing roads. This was of practical relevance to the children, as many of them have to cross the road to come to the Parivartan classes. Those who answered questions correctly in this and the previous session were rewarded with a packet of Crax curls, pens and toffees.

The programme finally ended with the distribution of “Krack-Jack Biscuits” and “Mango bite toffees” among all the children. Dr. Indraneel Mandal accompanied and motivated the student volunteers. Prof. Lokesh Upreti guided the volunteers in the conduct of the programme as the faculty coordinator of CSR Club - Parivartan.

‘Parivartan’ – The Slum Education Programme

15-07-18

15th July, 2018 activity of ‘Parivartan’- the Slum Education Programme, a CSR initiative of ITS, Ghaziabad, was an interesting and enriching day for the children. Volunteers of the day were – Aprajita Srivastava, Shashwat Sinha, Souvik Banerjee, Varun Arora and Nirja Rani.

During the first session, Dr Indraneel Mandal familiarized the students with the major states of the country and their capitals. It was amusing to note that while the children knew the names of certain states and capitals, they mostly could not connect one with the other. In that sense it turned out to be an eye opener for them.

The second session dealt with basic math skills – specifically addition and subtraction. Once again a lot of enthusiasm was noted among the children as Shaswat and Aprajita put up a number of questions, all of which were satisfactorily answered by the little students.

The activity concluded with the distribution of “Crax curls” and “Mango Bite toffees”. Prof. Lokesh Upreti accompanied and guided the volunteers as the faculty coordinator of CSR Club - Parivartan.
