‘Parivartan’ – The Slum Education Programme

23-09-18

'Parivartan'- The Slum Education Programme, a initiative by Department of Management at I.T.S Ghaziabad, organized Game Day, for slum children.

Between the clouds, the intermittent rainfall and the occasional sunlight in the afternoon of the 23rd of September, the excitement was building up to a crescendo for the children at Parivartan. It was Game Day, finally!
The volunteers for the day were Shiksha Rawat, Hitesh Sharma, Ankit Pal, Pooja Mourya and Sakshi Mall.

The feeling of expectation was palpable. There were whispers of anticipation among the children as the biggest prizes of the day were being arranged in front.

Three games were held during the day. The first was the popular game Simon Says, a test of alertness and quick response. This game was conducted by Hitesh. The second was In And Out, where all the children were first made to stand in a circle, and had to jump in and out, based on Ankit’s instruction.

The last game was Blindfold. As the name suggests, a cloth was tied across the eyes of each participant, who then had to identify others by feeling their faces.

Winners were rewarded with prizes. The top three winners received the much awaited School Bags as prize. Winkies Swiss Rolls were also given as the consolation prizes.

The day ended with the distribution of Britannia Butter bite Biscuits and Mango Bite Toffees among the children. Dr. Indraneel Mandal accompanied and motivated the student volunteers. Parivartan’ – The Slum Education Programme.

16-09-18

‘Parivartan’- the Slum Education Programme, a CSR initiative of Department of Management Studies at I.T.S, Ghaziabad, was apparently an ordinary Sunday with a most extraordinary history lesson. This activity was conducted on 16th September, 2018.

The lesson of the day was on the Stone Age, the earliest part of human history. Aru told the children about the society of those times - how people dressed and hunted and how they worshiped their Gods. Several of the children already had some idea about the topic and joined in the discussion with gusto.

In the next part, Aru and Anchal quizzed the children on what they had learnt. Those who answered correctly were given toffees.

Finally Dr. Indraneel Mandal decided to familiarise the learners with animal sounds. It was hilarious to observe that whenever the children were asked about a particular animal, they would respond by imitating its sound. By the end of the exercise, however, the children became familiar with the English names for these sounds.

The day’s program ended with the distribution of "Bikano Navratan Mix" and "Mango Bite Toffees".
Dr. Mandal accompanied and motivated the student volunteers, and guided them in the conduct of the sessions.

‘Parivartan’ – The Slum Education Programme

09-09-18

On 9th of September, 2018 the activity of ‘Parivartan’- the Slum Education Programme, a CSR initiative of I.T.S, Ghaziabad, celebrated the International Literacy Day. The literacy mission is obviously the main driving force behind an activity like Parivartan. We intended to use the day to highlight the importance of literacy in a country like India by distributing a notebook and a pen to every participant to inculcate the feeling of basic education in each one of them.

In the first part of the day’s programme Prof. Lokesh Upreti explained the concept of literacy to the children, pointing out why it was important and necessary. He emphasized that without being educated, people could be easily duped as they would have no way of independently verifying the facts and information provided by others.

The second part of the plan for the day consisted of ‘Mera Parichay’ – a session to familiarise the children with how to write their names as well as those of their parents in Hindi and English. This turned out to be the most enthusiastic part for the little ones. Almost all of them came up to the two faculty members as well as the student volunteers to make sure that they were writing everything correctly.
In the concluding part, a quiz was held with a view to revise past learning. Prizes in the form of pencil boxes and purses donated by the I.T.S Parivar were handed out to those answered correctly. The excitement was palpable as the children were more than eager to win their chosen ‘gifts’!

The day ended with the distribution of Bikano Namkeen and Mango Bite Toffees among the children. Dr. Indraneel Mandal accompanied and motivated the student volunteers. Prof. Lokesh Upreti guided the volunteers in the conduct of the programme as the faculty coordinator of CSR Club - Parivartan.

The guest speaker was Mr. Amit Sharma, Divisional Head-VRV Business at Daikin Air-conditioning India Pvt. Ltd.

He also spokes on Neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) which according to him is an approach to communication and personal development.Mr. Sharma said that through NLP we create a connection between neurological processes (neuro-), language (linguistic) and behavioral patterns learned through experience (programming), and that these can be changed to achieve specific goals in life.

He explained that classic interaction in NLP can be understood in terms of several major stages including establishing rapport, gleaning information about a problem mental state and desired goals; using specific tools and techniques to make interventions, and integrating proposed changes into the client's life.

He demonstrated that the entire process is guided by the non-verbal responses of the audience. He took an exercise with the students, in which he established a rapport between himself and the students. Mr. Sharma assisted the students in achieving the desired outcomes by using certain tools and techniques to change internal representations and responses to the world.

At the end of the corporate lecture a special vote of thanks was proposed for a wonderful and interactive session.
