A guest lecture was organized by Management Department at I.T.S- Mohan Nagar campus on 06th November, 2017 for PG management students on the topic "Comparative landscape for India vs Developing Market peers & Strategy: Case-studies from successful Indian/South Asian companies".
Mr. Sourajit Aiyer has worked as AVP - Investor Relations & Strategy with Motilal Oswal, Mumbai; and prior to that, with UBS AG, London and Evalueserve, Gurgaon.

In his deliberation he talked about the growth trajectory of the developing economies. He made a comparative study on developing markets which made up ASEAN, Next-11, BRICS, EEC, EAC, BIMSTEC (The Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation -is an international organisation involving a group of countries in South Asia and South East Asia. These are: Bangladesh, India, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Bhutan and Nepal), CIVETS (Colombia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Egypt, Turkey and South Africa) and the economic and corporate performance of these economies. All these markets are dependent on foreign investments, hence how do they stack against competing peers?

He also mentioned the concepts of top-down and bottom up approach to identifying common strategy patterns from successful Indian/SA businesses and to emulate them to deliver results in the same competitive environment. He also focused on business and strategy case-studies of Indian/South Asian companies based on certain common, identifiable patterns.

He also raised some concern related to future of the sectors that are going to dominate in the mature economies (Developed 5 & China). Is there any adverse impact on India’s excessive concentration on IT? What if it combines with BIMSTEC?

Students participated with full zeal in the discussion and asked several questions they had in mind. The deliberation was highly valuable for the students.

Expert Talk by Dr. Gireesh Chandra Tripathi for PG Mgmt. Students.

25-10-17

I.T.S Ghaziabad organized Guest lecture by Dr. Gireesh Chandra Tripathi, on 25th October, 2017, on the topic “GST & Demonetization: Implications on India”. The guest Dr. Gireesh Chandra Tripathi, Deputy Director General (Academics), NTPC School of Business talked about the concept of GST and Demonetization in India.

He said that Demonetization is a generations’ memorable experience and is going to be one of the economic events of our time. Its impact is being felt by every Indian citizen. Demonetization affects the economy through the liquidity side. It was a bold step by the Govt. as nearly 86% of currency value in circulation was withdrawn without replacing bulk of it. As a result of the withdrawal of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes, there occurred huge gap in the currency composition as after Rs 100; Rs 2000 is the only denomination.

Absence of intermediate denominations like Rs 500 and Rs 1000 will reduce the utility of Rs 2000. Effectively, this will make Rs 2000 less useful as a transaction currency though it can be a store value denomination.  Talking about GST, he said that the Goods and Services Tax (GST) is a game-changer that is expected to provide the much needed stimulant for economic growth in India by transforming the existing base of indirect taxation towards the free flow of goods and services. GST is also expected to eliminate the cascading effect of taxes. India is projected to play an important role in the world economy in the years to come. The expectation of GST being introduced is high not only within the country, but also within neighboring countries and developed economies of the world.

By merging a large number of Central and State taxes into a single tax, GST is expected to significantly ease double taxation and make taxation overall easy for the industries. For the end customer, the most beneficial will be in terms of reduction in the overall tax burden on goods and services. He further added that introduction of GST will also make Indian products competitive in the domestic and international markets. Last but not least, the GST, because of its transparent character, will be easier to administer. Once implemented, the proposed taxation system holds great promise in terms of sustaining growth for the Indian economy.

Students participated with full zest & zeal in the discussion and asked several questions they had in mind regarding GST & Demonetization. The deliberation was highly valuable for the students.

‘Parivartan’ – The Slum Education Programme

22-10-17

22nd October, 2017 activity of ‘Parivartan’- the Slum Education Programme, a CSR initiative of ITS, Ghaziabad was a post Diwali self-exploration which concluded with the discussion of the Green House Effect and the recitation of a lovely poem. Volunteers of the day Ankit Jaggi, Prerak Jain and Rakesh Dam started the class with the prayer ‘Tumhi ho mata pita tumhi ho, tumhi ho bandhu sakha tumhi ho’ and informed the children about the session scheduled for the day. The talk of the day was on ‘The Green House Effect’ during which the volunteers described the original concept and then explained how it works globally causing fatal warming.

The children were told that the greenhouse effect is a natural process that warms the Earth’s surface. When the Sun’s energy reaches the Earth’s atmosphere, some of it is reflected back to space and the rest is absorbed and re-radiated by greenhouse gases. Greenhouse gases include water vapour, carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, ozone and some artificial chemicals such as chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs).
The absorbed energy warms the atmosphere and the surface of the Earth. This process maintains the Earth’s temperature at around 33 degrees Celsius warmer than it would otherwise be, allowing life on Earth to exist. But the excessive pollution through crackers and fuel combustion causes extra heat that leads to global warming and other associated threats.  The children also enjoyed practicing and reciting a poem. At the end of the activity, a quiz was conducted and the winners were gifted with yellow balls.
The activity concluded with the distribution of biscuits and éclairs among all the children. Dr. Gopal Krishna Dwivedi guided the volunteers as the faculty coordinator of CSR Club.
