Dr. Vidushi Singh attended FDP on “Information System Frontiers(ISF-2017)

Dr. Vidushi Singh attended Faculty Development Programme on “Information System Frontiers(ISF-2017)” from 5th to 10th June 2017 organized by Jaypee Institute of Information Technology, Sector 128, Noida.

The FDP was divided into 16 sessions and 4 open discussion sessions which were delivered by the eminent speakers to cover the various aspects of Information Systems Frontiers.

Day 1

Inauguration session was held in the first half of the day 1. After that Prof.SubhashBhalla has discussed about the topic “Exploring Scientific Data Set Archives”.

Mr. Gaurav Saxena in his talk discussed about “Digital Philosophy and Its Impact on Society”. The talk was the summarization of hisown readings and ruminations of academicians & scientists who have used the language of science and technology to comment on the ancient philosophical questions posed by humans when faced with evil, suffering and their mortality. He discussed the effect of information technology on society, for the better and worse.

The focus of the talk on“Role of Mobile Computing Systems in Information Era” delivered by Dr. K. Rajlakshmi is how mobile computing targets to narrow down the gap of computing by bringing computer communications to areas without preexisting infrastructure and enable mobility along with new applications. She discussed in her talk about recent advancements in mobile technologies, various issues/solutions in mobile computing and the amalgamation of mobile computing in other aspects of computation technologies like cloud computing & pervasive computing.

Day 2

A session on “Cognitive Informatics” was delivered by Prof. Krishna Asawa. In her talk she discussed about the mechanism of the cognitive process operate in the human mind for building Cognitive Information System. She elaborated on how the cognitive data analysis and interpretation models make it possible to extract new, extremely significant information i.e. semantic information from the analysed data sets. With the help of a case study on Biometric Information System she has shown how semantic interpretations uncovers deep layers of information for the person conducting the analysis process and extend the attempts of traditional data interpretation whose end result is recognizing the analyzed object, feature, information or data.

Dr. Parmeet Kaur talked about “NoSQL for Big Databases”. She has discussed the need of the development and adoption of a new class of non-relational databases, referred to as NoSQL databases. She has shown how the requirement of database for the modern day information systems being distributed, scalable, voluminous, unstructured and open source is the impetus for the accelerated rise of the NoSQL. She introduced one database from each of the four main NoSQL data models (key-value, column family, document, and graph), along with case studies that highlight the needs that drive the development and use of each database model with the criteria that decision makers should consider while making a choice of the database most suited to the information system being developed.

A session on the topic “Sensor fusion for Ubiquitous Information Systems” is taken by Dr. Sangeeta Mittal. In her talk she highlighted our future dependency on sensors based Ubiquitous Information Systems. She discussed the sensors are the integral part of such information systems. She discussed in detail various level the data fusion methods and inferencing required to handle inherent characteristics like redundancy, heterogeneity, uncertainty, imprecision and volume, of the data from sensor sources with fusion models and architecture.

Day 3

Dr. MukeshSaraswat has discussed the concepts of the “Deep Learning” for information classification and understanding. He has shown how multiple processing layers to learn the representations of data with multiple levels of abstraction can significantly enhanced the state-of-the-art in visual object recognition, speech recognition, object detection and many other domains such as drug discovery and genomics. The complete process was explained with the help of a case study on image classification.

Dr. MuktaGoel in her talk on “E-learning” emphasize that E-learning systems can handle the time and space problems through web based learning environment to gain knowledge anywhere at any time in an efficient manner. She elaborated E-learning architecture which consist of different type of agents can impact on teaching and learning process. She has discussed how E-learning systems embraced and benefitted by the different type of tools such as E-mail, audio chat, online forum etc., which allow learner to study at their own pace. She mentioned that automated processes for different learning styles and different method of assessing the learner to personalize the learning could improve learner’s performance.

Day 4

Dr Shelly Sachdeva in her talk on the topic “Health Care Informatics” discussed the various facets of health care informatics. Recent advances in location tracking technologies have led to an explosion in the availability of trajectory data. Dr.SayanRanu in his Talk on “Trajectory Analytics” discussed that the way trajectories are collected today has undergone a dramatic shift, which has rendered existing techniques ineffective. He mentioned majority of the trajectory data today is generated as a by-product of another service e.g detail records from telecom operators, social network check-ins, credit card transactions, geo-tagged photo albums, and smart phone messaging apps etc. Consequently, there is no quality control and these datasets are noisy, inconsistently sampled, multi-modal, and highly dynamic. He discussed the research efforts made by himself that seeks to bridge the gap- data-rich but informationally poor world.

Dr. Shikha Mehta mentioned in her talk on “Frontiers in Streaming Data Analytics” that the data generated in this interconnected world where "smart" devices allow things and people to be connected from anyplace, anytime, with anything and anyone loses its value if it is not exposed and acted upon instantly. She mentioned critical challenges is using such data when it is in motion and extracting valuable information from it. In her talk she discussed on the state of art, problems and prospects in streaming data analytics.

Day 5

Around the globe people are trying to find out patterns in the data. Whether it is business intelligence, healthcare, defence and research, we need patterns to make good analysis. The session conducted by Mr. PulkitMehndiratta on “Predictive Analysis through R language” provided the current state of the art of predictive analysis and the processes of prediction through practical demonstration using R programming language.

Mr. Ashish discussed the architecture of map reduce with some practical demonstration to illustrate the concept of “Parallel clustering using Hadoop”. He has also discussed how Hadoop architecture can be used to in data mining to handle large scale data with k-means algorithm.

As we know there is no field that has been left untouched by cloud computing and at the rate data is growing today, it's not surprising that cloud storage is also growing in popularity. Mr. ShariqMurtuzain the talk entitled “Cloud Storage Architecture”discussed about the different public/private cloud models that are being deployed across the industry to serve the customers their required data efficiently and effectively. He has shown how the companies like Amazon and Google leverage the cloud to deliver their YouTube and other video content seamlessly all across the globe. He has also explored the technologies like CDNs and Internet Peering that enable such large scale information systems to work flawlessly using Any casting and Software Defined Networks methods.

Over the past two decades, dramatic improvement in computing efficiencies and hardware costs have made cyber and IoT systems omnipotent, and control many aspects of human lives. However, information assurance in a smart world environment is extremely important because of the indispensable dependency of the cyber systems’ performance on the operations and safety of a smart world. Dr. ArunBalaji examined in his talk on “Information Assurance for Smart World Environments”certain critical areas in smart world environments, which require security hardening. In addition, he explored thechallenges of providing sufficient security in such an environment and current state of the art that addresses some of these challenges. Future research directions to meet the unmet challenges in these critical areas were also discussed.

Day 6

No information system cannot be made to put into practice until unless its performance is not ascertain. Mr. Sanjeev Patel in his talk on “Performance Evaluation Methodology to Computing Systems” discussed how to select appropriate evaluation techniques, performance metrics and workloads for a system testing. A Systematic Approach to performance evaluation and commonly used performance metrics was demonstrated by him with the help of a case study.

In addition to these lecture sessions, four open discussions sessions were held on the topic –

  • How to Leverage the Benefits of IoT for Growing India By Mr. Nilesh and Hardik
  • Impact of Immigration Policy on Indian IT Sector : Is it Boon or Threat By Sudhanshu
  • Impact of Social Networking On Lives of Us: Are We Together Or Far by Dr. Vidushi Singh
