I.T.S Mohan Nagar, Ghaziabad celebrated Republic Day at ‘Parivartan’ – The Slum Education Programme. The volunteers for the day were Sagar, Vishal, Manoj, Praveen, Archit, Rashmi, Tisha, Piyush, Kajal and Simran.
At first Prof. Lokesh Upreti began the day’s activities by explaining to the little learners why the 26th of January is an important date on the calendar for Indians. He made the children realise what nation-building actually involves and why being independent itself does not imply much for a country.
Rashmi then referred to the two major national festivals and asked the children to explain how Republic Day differs from Independence Day. Seeing that the kids were in a bit of confusion, she proceeded to emphasise how the two occasions serve two very different purposes.
Next Rashmi and Sagar invited the children to come over and recite a few patriotic songs or poems known to them. Everyone who participated was presented with a small replica of the Tricolour. As the day was drawing to a close, the assembled learners were given Boondi laddoos, packets of Navratan Mixture and Melody toffees to mark the occasion. Everybody went home happy in the afterglow of patriotic fervour.
Prof. Upreti planned and presided over the day’s session. Prof. Ashutosh Sharma guided and motivated the volunteers in the various tasks.
