"The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of Patriots and tyrants and a soldier will fight long & hard for a bit of colored ribbon."  -      Thomas Jefferson

Since the past last two weeks an angry patriotic fervor has gripped the whole of India. Hence it was important to enlighten the little learners so that they have a general awareness about the many helping hands they have around them, including one of the best military forces in the world.

Shiksha started off the day with a discussion of the common community helpers, and it was carried on beautifully by Disha Saraswat describing the role of about fifteen community helpers such as teachers, doctors, cobblers, barbers, the police, washer folk, etc. As usual the children were not to be left behind as they shouted out the names of almost all such helpers. The session continued with the description of services delivered by each and every community helper and their work in our time of necessity.

The second part of the day's classes dealt with an introduction to our real life superhero Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman, whose loyalty & brave deeds were witnessed by the whole nation and the world beyond. Upasana Singh lead the session by teaching the children about the components of the Indian Armed Forces - The Air Force, The Army & The Navy. She also spoke about INS Vikrant, the first aircraft carrier built in India. An interesting part of the session dealt with the different types of salutes & their meaning, which was like a cherry on the cake.

The children were enthralled by the massive dose of learning coupled with fun. As per practice, an impromptu quiz was then held to test the knowledge of the day's learning. The day then closed out with the distribution of packets of  "Bikano Moong Daal" & "Parle Orange" toffees among the children.

Prof. Lokesh Upreti guided the volunteers in the conduct of the programme as the faculty coordinator of CSR Parivatan.
