The day started off with Prof. Lokesh Upreti explaining to children the significance of observing the National Girl Child Day. He spoke on why it was necessary to treat boys and girls as equals. He also made the children aware about how education, health and safety of girls helps the country as a whole. Then, one by one, the volunteers highlighted three recent national female icons. Jyoti talked about the late astronaut Kalpnan Chawla; Tarique held stage on the Commonwealth Games champion Geeta Phogat; and Chetan described the exploits of boxing queen Mary Kom.

Next Mansi came forward for the other part of the day’s programme, as she quizzed the children on their knowledge of occasions like Independence Day and Republic Day. Those who answered correctly were rewarded with  ‘Cadbury’s Dairy Milk’ chocolates. Mansi continued by discussing the events that went into the drafting of the first Constitution of independent India. She also related a story about how Bhagat Singh developed into the great freedom fighter that we are proud of. A quiz was then held to test all that the children learnt during the day. Those who answered correctly were given toffees. Balloons in national colors and flags were also distributed among the learners to mark the celebration of the day. The day concluded with the distribution of laddoos, packets of ‘Krax Curls’ and ‘Kismi Bite’ toffees among the children. Dr. Indraneel Mandal accompanied and motivated the student volunteers. Prof. Lokesh Upreti guided the volunteers in the conduct of the programme as the faculty coordinator of CSR Club - Parivartan.
