A guest lecture was organized by Management Department at I.T.S- Mohan Nagar campus on 06th November, 2017 for PG management students on the topic "Comparative landscape for India vs Developing Market peers & Strategy: Case-studies from successful Indian/South Asian companies".
Mr. Sourajit Aiyer has worked as AVP - Investor Relations & Strategy with Motilal Oswal, Mumbai; and prior to that, with UBS AG, London and Evalueserve, Gurgaon.
In his deliberation he talked about the growth trajectory of the developing economies. He made a comparative study on developing markets which made up ASEAN, Next-11, BRICS, EEC, EAC, BIMSTEC (The Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation -is an international organisation involving a group of countries in South Asia and South East Asia. These are: Bangladesh, India, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Bhutan and Nepal), CIVETS (Colombia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Egypt, Turkey and South Africa) and the economic and corporate performance of these economies. All these markets are dependent on foreign investments, hence how do they stack against competing peers?
He also mentioned the concepts of top-down and bottom up approach to identifying common strategy patterns from successful Indian/SA businesses and to emulate them to deliver results in the same competitive environment. He also focused on business and strategy case-studies of Indian/South Asian companies based on certain common, identifiable patterns.
He also raised some concern related to future of the sectors that are going to dominate in the mature economies (Developed 5 & China). Is there any adverse impact on India’s excessive concentration on IT? What if it combines with BIMSTEC?
Students participated with full zeal in the discussion and asked several questions they had in mind. The deliberation was highly valuable for the students.
