‘Parivartan’ – The Slum Education Programme of Institute of Technology & Science, Mohan Nagar, Ghaziabad, organized Activity on 4th November, 2018. There are only a few days left for Diwali. Naturally it was a time to celebrate the Festival of Lights at Parivartan.

Prof. Lokesh Upreti started off the day explaining why it was necessary to behave responsibly while bursting crackers on the occasion of Diwali. The children were well aware of the problems posed by such celebrations. Prof. Upreti also referred to the various kinds of pollution being generated from this bursting of crackers.

Then Hitesh began with the first session of the day. He traced out the origins of cracker bursting to the deserts of Rajasthan. He went on to describe the different types of crackers. Next he introduced the concept of green crackers, as mandated by the recent judgement of the Supreme Court, and discussed why these are beneficial for the environment. Prof. Upreti then involved the students in demonstrating the proper and safe method of lighting crackers.

Yogesh then interacted with the students on the significance of observing Diwali. He also used the opportunity to point out that Diwali is celebrated not only by Hindus, but also other communities like Sikhs and Jain to mark the release of Guru Har Gobind Singh by the Mughals, and Mahavir attaining Nirvana, respectively.

Last but not the least, a Rapid fire quiz round was held to test the knowledge acquired by the children. The 4 winners were awarded with a special "Natraj Stationary Gift Pack" each.

The day came to an end with the distribution of laddoos, Frooti and Mango Bite Toffees among the children.

 

Dr. Indraneel Mandal accompanied and motivated the student volunteers. Prof. Lokesh Upreti guided the volunteers in the conduct of the programme as the faculty coordinator of CSR Club - Parivartan.
