The resource person for the session was Dr. Deepak Tandon, Professor, IMI, New Delhi. Dr Sanjeev Tandon initiated proceedings by welcoming the guest and referred to Dr Deepak Tandon’s impressive experience in corporate as well as academics.

Dr V.N. Bajpai, Director, I.T.S Mohan Nagar, then provided a context to the day’s session, explaining the genesis of the idea behind the workshop. He emphasised that case studies are an essential aid in a management classroom and hence faculty members need to build on the skill of developing the same. Dr Bajpai traced out the origins of case writing, including its history in management education in India. He hoped that ultimately it would lead to faculty members writing their own cases in diverse areas.

Finally, Dr Deepak Tandon took centrestage, dissecting the anatomy of a proper case study in management. Dr Tandon advised that it was always a good idea to prepare a case in partnership with others. He referred to explicit and implicit contexts and pointed out that the content of the case should be compatible with the intended readers. A number of cases based on recent occurrences in the world of business were used to bear out the points made during the session.

All in all, it was a fruitful way to spend the day with a newlearning experience. Participating faculty members acknowledged the depth of knowledge and authority of Dr Tandon in the area of case development.
