24th September, 2017 activity of ‘Parivartan’- the Slum Education Programme, a CSR initiative of ITS, Ghaziabad was a mix of Science and Spiritualism in which the children came to know about the ‘Ram ki Shakti Puja’ – the story that tells why Navratri is celebrated, and they also learnt about the Nutrients – essential for physical growth and energy as it was the main theme of the day.

Volunteers of the day Deeksha Rajput, Amit Kashyap, Abhay Gupta, Apurva Tyagi, Atay Rasool, Vaishali Malik, Rishabh Gupta, Rohit Chaudhary, Saumya Pandey, Azad Yadav, Ranjiw Kumar, Shankar Kadariya, Bikram Parajuli and Rakesh Dam started the class with the prayer ‘Tumhi ho mata pita tumhi ho, tumhi ho bandhu sakha tumhi ho’.

The first session of the day was on Essential Nutrients in which the President of Parivartan Club Mr. Rakesh Dam explained the significance of Vitamins, Minerals and Proteins and discussed the diseases caused due to their deficiencies. The easily accessible sources of these nutrients were also shared with the children.

The second session of the day was - why we celebrate Navratri and the gist of ‘Ram ki Shakti Puja’, a long poem composed by Pandit Surya Kant Tripathi Nirala, was narrated for the children. They were told how Lord Rama worshipped Goddess Durga for nine days for defeating Ravana. The Goddess blessed Him and on the tenth day Ravana was killed which is celebrated as Vijaya Dashmi or Dussehra.

At the end of the talks, a quiz was conducted and the correct responses were appreciated with Parle-G biscuits. The class concluded with the distribution of Bingo Tedhe-medhe and éclairs among all the children. Dr. Gopal Krishna Dwivedi accompanied and guided the volunteers as the faculty coordinator of CSR Club.
