Expert Talk – cum – Alumni Interaction for MCA Students organized by the Department of IT

An Expert talk - cum - Alumni interaction was organized by the Department of IT for MCA students on 1st February, 2023.

The guest speaker on this occasion was Mr. Jiten Bhardwaj, an alumnus of MCA 2002-05 Batch who is presently working as a Client Delivery Lead in BJSS, UKthe Department. The program started with the welcome address by Director-IT, Prof. Sunil Kumar Pandey. During his address, Dr. Pandey introduced Mr. Jiten Bhardwaj to MCA Students and also shared his memory about Mr. Jiten.
Mr. Jiten Bhardwaj started his speech with special thanks and expressed his gratitude to Prof. Sunil Kumar Pandey, Director-IT for supporting and guiding him continuously throughout his tenure at the institute. He also shared his various wonderful experiences at the college with the students and advised them to attend classes regularly and sincerely. He also encouraged the students to do projects and certifications which will increase the weight of their CVs and help them be employable. While interacting with the students, he urged them to work towards the skill that makes them job providers rather than job seekers.
Mr. Jiten Bhardwaj concluded his speech by emphasizing that the basic concept of subjects is very important to get a job as a fresher. Students participated with enthusiasm, were interactive, answered questions by the speaker, and got answers to their queries during the session.
The program ended with a vote of thanks and presenting a memento to Mr. Jiten Bhardwaj as a token of remembrance.

Faculty member attended UNGCNI Program on Circular Economy for the SDGs: From Concept to Practice

Dr. Rajeev Johari and Dr. Indraneel Mandal faculty members of I.T.S School of Management, Ghaziabad & Institute of Technology and Science, Ghaziabad attended UN Global Compact Network India’s Sustainability Program “Circular Economy for the SDGs: From Concept to Practice” on 31st January, 2023 at Hyatt Regancy Hotel, Bhikaji Cama Place, New Delhi. 
 

The programme began with the opening remarks and welcome by Mr Arun Kumar Singh, CMD, ONGC, and President UN GCNI. This was followed by the special address (via video) by René Van Berkel, UNIDO representative and Head, Regional Office in India, where he held forth on the circular economy; take, make and recycle approach; and the replacement of the traditional 3Rs. Then Mr. Hindol Sengupta, Chief Economic Research Officer and VP, Invest India, explained the research done in this area, including the use of materials like bamboo. He also discussed how the circular economy is related to SDGs, using the acronym GST (Gender, Sustainability and Transitivity). The keynote address was delivered by Mr. Sivasubramanian Ramann, CMO of SIDBI. Mr Ramann spoke of the need for a bottom up approach, and how India has had a centuries old relationship with the circular economy. The inaugural address was given by Dr Rakesh Sarwal, CMD, National Minorities Development and Finance Corporation. He pointed out the relation between affluence, consumerism and waste, session ended with the vote of thanks delivered by Dr Ratnesh Jha, Executive Director, UN GCNI.

The inaugural session was followed by a session on the theme Business Commitment: Integration of Circular Economy Practices by Businesses to achieve SDGs.

The panelists of the session are:

·         Mr Ganesh Ramamurti, CEO, Auro Research;

·         Mr Prashant Choubey, Lixil;

·         Ms. Priyanka Tanwar, Leader Communications and Corporate Responsibility Asia, Lixil

The session was moderated by Dr Ratnesh Jha.

The deliberations centred on different aspects of renewable energy and how that played into the circular economy.

Session 2 had the theme Uncomplicate Technology: Technology as a Catalyst to integrate Circular Economy/Waste to Wealth into Business Models and to reach the last mile.

The panelists of the session are:

·         Dr Shilpi Jain, Professor of Data Sciences;

·         Mr Alok Lall, Customer Success Lead – IteS, Microsoft;

·         Mr Mohit Narain, MD, Environmentors Perpetuity Solutions and Services Pvt. Ltd.

The moderator was Ms. Sonia Duhan, AVP, Invest India. The discussion proceeded on how technology can contribute to the circular economy.

Session 3 was based on the theme Policy Framework, Governance and Financing to  strengthen the implementation of Circular Economy Practices.

The panelists of the session are:

·         Mr Ashwin Saxena, CEO, JSW Foundation;

·         Dr Ulac Demirag, Country Director and Representative, International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD);

·         Ms. Shuva Raha, Head – New Initiatives Council on Energy, Environment and Water, CEEW.

The moderator for the session was Mr Vishvesh Prabhaka from Accenture, The discussion centred on policy initiatives in this space.

Session 4 had the theme addressing the Challenges: Best Practices and Global Trends in Circular Economy/Waste to Wealth Generation Practices by Businesses/Non-Businesses.

All in all, it was a very comprehensive examination of various aspects of the circular economy, with the practitioners and policy makers providing a ringside view of the thought processes in this field.

‘Parivartan’ – The Slum Education Programme

I.T.S, Mohan Nagar, Ghaziabad conducted ‘Parivartan’ – The Slum Education Programme on the 26th of January, 2023. Winter was finally coming to an end, and it was time for devotion and pride as Basant Panchami was being celebrated on Republic Day.

The volunteers for the day were Anuj, Kashish, Jyoti, Ankit, Saurav, Ziya, Yash, Sakshi, Mansi, Aryan, Nandan, Saloni, Harsha, Sudhanshu and Rohit.

Saurav started the teaching for the day by explaining the importance of 26th January in the history of India. In this context, the young learners were told about the role played by the Constitution. Following up on this, first time teacher at Parivartan Nandan spoke about the various freedom fighters like Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, Sarojini Naidu, Rani Lakshmibai, Bhagat Singh and others. Not surprisingly, the children were familiar with many of them.

Following the recent trend, it was time for a game. It was more a test of memory and knowledge as the volunteers lined up holding cards bearing fragments of the names of well-known freedom fighters. The kids had to identify the first part of each name, and then complete it by finding the other part.

This was followed by a session of Fundamental Rights. Several of the volunteers stood turn by turn before the assembled class with a placard referring to a particular right enshrined in the Constitution. Each of them explained the necessity and importance of the relevant right for the citizens of the country. In order to simplify the understanding, a couple of skits were staged by the volunteers emphasising on the Rightto Constitutional Remediesand the Right to Equality.

The last segment had been kept for the cultural competition. Interested kids danced to music and the best three performers were awarded prizes. The day cam to an end with the distribution of laddoos, before the children proceeded home. Dr Indraneel Mandal facilitated the planning of the day’s activities and motivated the volunteers on site.

Alumni Talk on Opportunities in Media Industry

Management Department of Institute of Technology and Science, Mohan Nagar, Ghaziabad organised an alumni talk for the students of MBA (2022-24) batch on 24th January, 2023. 

Mr. Arun Kumar Pathak, Sales Head, MY FM and alumnus of MBA 2005-07 Batch interacted with the students on the topic “Opportunities in Media Industry”.

Dr. Nitin Saxena extended a warm welcome to Mr. Arun by offering a plant sapling to him and briefed about the importance of such sessions to the students. Mr. Arun presented an in-depth coverage of media industry and shared various opportunities available for the fresh management graduates in this industry. He discussed roles and responsibilities of various key positions he personally handled in this industry in the last almost fifteen years of his corporate experience including print, digital and radio media.  

He talked about a few of the selling & marketing skills required to handle challenges in this industry. He explained various aspects of advertising including content, Govt. guidelines to be followed, creative elements in it, target segment etc leading to larger impact and revenue for the organisation.

The talk concluded with a question – answer session followed by presentation of a memento to the guest, as a token of respect and gratitude by Dr Nitin Saxena.

3-Days Boot Camp on “Block Chain, Crypto Currency and Cloud Computing” for MCA(2022-24) Batch Students

A three-days Boot Camp on "Block Chain, Crypto currency, and Cloud Computing" was held by the DBMS Club of MCA, Department of IT, I.T.S, Mohan Nagar, Ghaziabad, from January 16th to January 18th, 2023.

Dr. Sunil Kr Pandey, Director (IT& UG), led the session. The session's goal was to provide an overview and in-depth understanding of new technologies. The session was conducted for MCA(2022-24) batch students.

MCA Chairperson-Prof. Puja Dhar welcomed Director (IT&UG), Dr. Sunil Kumar Pandey and the students. She stated that these sessions are essential, particularly for first-year students taking FCET course.

Block chain technology aims to make it possible to record and distribute digital data without editing it. A block chain serves as the foundation for immutable ledgers, which are records of transactions that cannot be changed, deleted, or destroyed. Block chains are also known as distributed ledgers because of this. Crypto currencies run on a distributed public ledger called block chain, a record of all transactions updated and held by currency holders.

While addressing the students, Dr. Sunil Kr. Pandey, Director(IT&UG) explained in detail about the working of Block chain, its advantages & disadvantages. He also mentioned different types of crypto currency and also their pros and cons.

The session was also attended by the faculty members of Department of IT. It was an updating of knowledge for all the attendee.

Three days boot-camp was full of learning and interactive session where students cleared their many doubts about Block Chain.

Over 110 students and faculty members from the IT & Management Department attended the session.

Workshop organized for MBA Students.

On 17th January, a workshop was organized for the students of MBA First Year (Batch 2022-24).

 

The topic of the session was ‘Decoding Excel tools for business decisions.’The resource person of the day Ms. Komal Bhalla, a seasoned business analyst demonstrated how various tools of Excel can be used for taking relevant business decisions.

During the session, Ms. Bhallaexplained in detail various formulas which students can apply for extracting information out of the available data set. She also elaborated on the interpretations of the extracted data and described the implications of the observations for taking the right decisions.

The session also witnessed active participation from the students as they raised their queries related to the topic. The explanations and examples given by Ms. Komal Bhalla helped in creating a good understanding of the discussion among the students.

Lohri and Makar Sankranti Celebrated with Children by ‘Parivartan’ – The Slum Education Programme

I.T.S, Mohan Nagar, Ghaziabad conducted ‘Parivartan’ – The Slum Education Programme on the 13th of January, 2023. The harvest season with Lohri and Makar Sankranti.

The volunteers for the day were Anuj, Kashish, Jyoti, Anubhav, Saurav, Nishu, Amit, Ziya, Ritika, Nidhi and Isha.

Amit started off the proceedings for the day by explaining the importance of light, the occasion being Lohri. In this connection he pointed out how sunlight is essential for most living things for their activities and physiological functions. He also reminded the kids that photosynthesis in plants also depended on the availability of light. In between he did not forget to mention the role of Thomas Alva Edison in the discovery of electricity. In order to illustrate his point Amit blindfolded a learner and asked him to catch others; later he was asked to do the same after removing the blindfold.

Next it was Nishu’s turn to trace out the history and origin of Lohri. Involving the kids in the storytelling session, he emphasised on how good always triumphs over evil.

Finally it was game time. The idea was to teach the tiny tots about alertness, coordination and team work. Accordingly, they were divided into groups which competed against one another. Each member was required to transfer a popcorn from one container to another using chop sticks. The winner would be the group which had people making the most transfers in the allotted time.

As day came to an end, Good Day biscuits and dry fruits were distributed among the children before they proceeded homewards.Dr Indraneel Mandal planned the activities with the volunteers and motivated them on site in the execution of the various tasks.

Droupdi Murmu during Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention held at Indore, among ourselves at I.T.S, Mohan Nagar, Ghaziabad for interaction with Faculty & Students. On this occasion, Prof. Ramjee Prasad Sir was also felicitated by the Institute for his Contributions to the field of Information Technology and the Telecomm Industry.

"Introduction to Virtual Lab"

Department of IT organized a session on "Introduction to Virtual Lab" on 7 January 2023. The objective of the session was to give the introduction about virtual labs. How the students can access the virtual labs and what is the benefit of the virtual lab.

 

The idea of virtual laboratory is to provide the students a chance to perform experiments using the internet and visual aids without having the equipments at their end. The laboratory experience is obviously an important part of Engineering education, which goes a long way in building up good quality engineers. The Virtual lab program presents a unique opportunity to boost the quality of engineering education, deepen understanding, and provide the necessary practical skills to young minds through cost effective outreach and distance learning activities. The session was attended by 146 students.

HR club organized activity on “A to Z Talent” for MBA students

HR CLUB METANOIA MBA at I.T.S, Ghaziabad organized a one day activity  on “A to Z Talent”  for MBA 2022-2024 batch students on 3rd January 2023.

 

The objective of the activity was to enhance knowledge of participants and boost their Team building skills and critical thinking. It also enabled students to understand the role or time management with importance of clear communication between teams.. MBA students of 2022-24 batch participated in teams of 4 members each. It has 2 rounds. First round was having a set of Team building and critical thinking games and participants had to meet the standard to reach the final round. The final round was a quiz round where mental ability of the participants was judged. The club activity was started by welcoming the participants. It was followed by motivational words for participants by Prof. Smita Barik , Faculty coordinator of the club.

 The activity started with full of energy by the participants. All participants planned strategies and gave their best to win the activity. The activity was conducted by HR Club METANOIA MBA for batch 2022-2023 under the guidance and provision of HR club METANOIA MBA coordinator Prof. Smita Barik . The winning team were awarded   & motivated with words of wisdom by Dr. Sunil Kumar Yadav, Chairperson, MBA by giving amazing prizes .

On 23rdDecember 2022, Department of IT, I.T.S, Mohan Nagar, Ghaziabad organized a special session for the students of I.T.S, Mohan Nagar, Ghaziabad.

The session was inaugurated by the Director (IT), Dr. Sunil Kr. Pandey, Director ITS, Dr. V N Bajpai, eminent Guest Sh. Anish Ji and Director, ITS-School of Management, Dr. Timira Shukla.

While addressing the audience, Director (IT), Dr. Sunil Kr. Pandey said that these sessions are the energy boosters for all of us and students are privileged to listen Sh. Anish Ji.

During his talk Sh. Anish Ji, (Cofounder of world’s leading HR Consulting Company-PeopleStrong), Visionary, Spiritual Teacher, Humanitarian, Leadership Mentor, Author addressed on success mantra of life with keeping control on emotions, stress release and how to be purposeful, focused, exuberance, fearlessness and relationship. After session lots of questions were asked by the student’s which lasted for about an Hour. It itself speaks the impact, connect and engagement of students in the session.

At the end of the Session the way students approached him with their questions, to take photographs with him, touching his feet and requesting to come again was something which touched him and he assured that he will surely visit again the Institute in near future.

Sh. Anish also discussed about the five factors which are very important for a person to be successful like Purpose, Focus, Exuberance, Fearless and Relationship.

In his comment Sri Anish Sir appreciated the Management of the Institute, faculty and staff team and most importantly he was very happy and appreciated the way students interacted and came forward with lots of questions.

At the end of session, Director (ITS), Dr. V N Bajpai proposed a vote of thanks and wished best luck to all the students for their future endeavours.

The session was attended by over 750+ students and the faculty members of IT & Management Department.

Guest Talk by Sh. Sanjeev Jain on “Building Effective Social Media Profile on Linkedin”

On 21st December 2022, Department of IT, I.T.S, Mohan Nagar, Ghaziabad organized a guest talk on the theme “Building Effective Social Media Profile on LinkedIn” for the students of MCA.

The business community has its own dedicated social networking platform calledLinkedIn. The website’s objective is to give registered users the ability to createand maintain professional networks of people they are familiar with and trust. It isthe biggest professional network on the internet in the entire world. LinkedIn canbe used to connect with people and establish professional ties, discover the idealjob or internship, and get the knowledge necessary to advance your career.

While addressing the students, Director (IT), Dr. Sunil Kr. Pandey advised students to take full advantage of the session and it is important for all to have an effective profile on LinkedIn. He said thatsocial media is gaining popularity and can’t be ignored now. How to make once presence with proper organization, impressive, effective and systematic is key to success as many professional organizations are continuously looking at Social Media Profiles not only for exploring good human resource but also for other collaboration, research and other professional associations.

MCA Chairperson-Prof. Puja Dhar welcomed the guest and the students. She said that these sessions are required especially for the students of 2nd year who are preparing for the placement drives. Students should act upon the advices suggested by the speaker.

The objective of this talk was to make the students aware about the effective LinkedIn Profiles. Mr. Sanjeev Jain, Chief Information Officer, Integreon-Mumbai was the speaker of this session. Mr. Jain in his elaborative session discussed various aspects of making impressive and effective Social Media Profile in specific reference to LinkedIn.

During his talk he suggested students many tips regarding the Profile Pictures, what to write in a summary, how to sell the qualities using impressive words.

At last, he advised all the students to prepare an eye-catching profile which is full of achievements and skills of a person. The session was an eye-opening for all the learners. Mr. Jain also addressed many queries of the students.

The Session was also attended by Vice Principal, UG-Campus, Prof. Nancy Sharma, Coordinator, MCA Prof. SmitaKansal, and Faculty members of Department of IT.

4-days Employability Skills Program for MBA (2021-23)batch

I.T.S Mohan Nagar ,Ghazibad Department of Management  organised a 4-days Employability Skills Program for MBA (2021-2batch)  from 20th - 23rd December 2022

by Rubicon Skill Development Pvt Ltd Rubicon’s Training Program is supported by Barclays which aims at improving the employability skills of the youth.

Under this program, participants were trained by Certified Corporate Trainers to enhance their Employability skills which will help them significantly to increase their chance of succeeding in a job interview.

This Training Program covered modules like Organizational Structure, Public Speaking, Presentation Skills, E-mail Etiquette, Grooming, Group Discussion, Personal Interview and assessment which was conducted on the basis of Group Discussion and Personal Interviews.

At the end of the session, participants were given detailed feedback for their performance during the Mock Interview Session. Also, participants were awarded with participation certificates.

FIFTH RESEARCH CONVENTION 2022 ON “ECONOMIC RESET: AGENDA FOR 2030”

Institute of Technology and Science, Ghaziabad organised the Fifth Research Convention on the theme “Economic Reset: Agenda For 2030” on 17th December, 2022.

The distinguished guests for the Inaugural Session included Dr Rajan Sudesh Ratna, Senior Economic Affairs Officer, UNESCAP South and South-East Asia Office, who was the Chief Guest; Ms Mercy Epao, Joint Secretary, Ministry of MSME, who was invited as the Guest of Honour; and Dr Satya N. Gupta, Chairman, Bluetown India and BIMSTEC, who attended as a Special Guest.

The Honourable Vice Chairman sir Shri Arpit Chadha addressed the students in the audience, asking them to utilise the deliberations as a serious means of developing themselves. He opined that in order to get ahead in life it was necessary to utilise such opportunities.

Dr. V.N. Bajpai, Director, I.T.S. Mohan Nagar, delivered the welcome address. Dr Bajpai alluded to the fact that it was a very compelling topic. Conditions in India were in place for an economic boom, but there was need for caution with regard to the bumpy road ahead.

Dr Rajeev Johari, Convener of the Convention, provided an overview of the day’s events. He also took the opportunity to trace out the evolution of the Convention since its beginning in 2018.

Dr Gupta provided facts and figures reflecting the current state of affairs with regard to the economy. He also referred to the startup revolution in India and relevance of SDGs.

Finally, Dr Ratna provided an illuminating portrait of the economic challenges facing India. Responding to questions from the students, he threw some light on issues like economic diversification, climate change and digital inclusion.

It was a very realistic yet thought provoking start to the day’s proceedings. It ended with the promise of more vistas of knowledge in the succeeding sessions.

Panel Discussion I

The participants in the first panel discussion included Mr. Priya Ranjan, Chief General Manager of Steel Authority of India; Mr. Amlesh Sinha, Vice President of MakeMyTrip; Mr. Manglesh Yadav, Program Director of Atal Innovation Mission, NITI Ayog; and Dr. Moonis Shakeel, Professor of Economics, Jamia Millia Islamia.

The session was focused on MSME, entrepreneurship, innovation, and startups. The event began with all the guests being welcomed with plant saplings by the dignitaries like Honourable Vice Chairman Shri. Arpit Chadha, Director I.T.S School of Management Dr.Timira Shukla,  Dr. Bajpai and Dr. Johari.

Dr. Shakeel set the ball rolling by enlightening the audience about the chosen theme. Mr. Yadav felt that the conditions of the country are very conducive for opening of startups. Noting that 84,000 start-ups have been registered, he mentioned various policies that are coming up in this regard. Mr. Priya Ranjan addressed the agenda for the event as a fusion of two topics, viz.- global reset along with economic reset. Mr. Sinha had the final word when he talked about how things have become automated with machine learning and data science.

The session was quite interactive as the participants asked several relevant questions that were answered to their satisfaction. It concluded with the presentation of mementos as a token of appreciation and gratitude. Overall, it was indeed a very insightful and thoughtful session, which enthused the students.

Panel Discussion II

The second panel discussion of the Convention was held in a hybrid mode. The discussants in this session were: Mr. Anand Mirani, Director, Simplus Exim Corporate Advisory, LLP; Dr. Sandeep Poddar, Dy. Vice Chancellor, Lincoln University, Malaysia; Prof. Vivek Nagpaul, Chairman Euro-Asian University & Career Network, Netherlands; and Mr. Wimon Pukong, Institute for Trade & Development, Bangkok, Thailand.

At the outset, Mr. Anand Mirani, Director, Simplus Exim Corporate Advisory, LLP dwelt on the ‘reset’ aspect. He explained how this is necessary for the developing economy and what it entailed.  He also touched upon the use of modern technology in shaping the future of the economy.

The second speaker was Dr. Sandeep Poddar, Dy. Vice Chancellor, Lincoln University, Malaysia. In his opening remarks Dr. Poddar drew attention to the UN Sustainability Goals for 2030. He emphasised on the various aspects of technology in exploring solutions. According to him the use of ICT gave new dimension to Industry 5.0.  

Prof. Nagpaul highlighted the reset aspect of innovation. In his view, technology gave better solutions to the customers. He emphasised on the need for collaboration.  In his opinion India holds lots of opportunities for youngsters. His parting shot to the management students was about cherishing ‘ethical business’.

 Finally, Mr. Wimon Pukong from Thailand used his research paper to underline the role of e-commerce as the driving engine for career promotion and service. He also covered the agri sector, industrial and logistics development in the Thai Economy through the use of IT.

As the programme drew to an end, the panellists were thanked on behalf of the ITS, with virtual plaques being provided as a token of gratitude and appreciation. The gathered audience including the students marvelled at the fruitful discussions and depth of knowledge sharing.

Guest Lecture on "Hire ability: Skills-based approach in Corporates" for MBA (2022-24) Batch

I.T.S - Mohan Nagar, Department of Management organized a Guest Lecture on "Hire ability: Skills-based approach in Corporates" for MBA (2022-24) Batch on December 14, 2022, by Ms. Priti Shroff Singh, Master Corporate Trainer and Motivational Speaker. 

Ms. Priti talked about competencies like communication, conflict resolution, and problem solving underpin almost every facet of business operations. She gave a deep insight of the skills required to be hired in companies and the ways to improve the hire ability.
