The volunteers for the day were Anuj, Kashish, Jyoti, Ankit, Saurav, Ziya, Yash, Sakshi, Mansi, Aryan, Nandan, Saloni, Harsha, Sudhanshu and Rohit.

Saurav started the teaching for the day by explaining the importance of 26th January in the history of India. In this context, the young learners were told about the role played by the Constitution. Following up on this, first time teacher at Parivartan Nandan spoke about the various freedom fighters like Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, Sarojini Naidu, Rani Lakshmibai, Bhagat Singh and others. Not surprisingly, the children were familiar with many of them.

Following the recent trend, it was time for a game. It was more a test of memory and knowledge as the volunteers lined up holding cards bearing fragments of the names of well-known freedom fighters. The kids had to identify the first part of each name, and then complete it by finding the other part.

This was followed by a session of Fundamental Rights. Several of the volunteers stood turn by turn before the assembled class with a placard referring to a particular right enshrined in the Constitution. Each of them explained the necessity and importance of the relevant right for the citizens of the country. In order to simplify the understanding, a couple of skits were staged by the volunteers emphasising on the Rightto Constitutional Remediesand the Right to Equality.

The last segment had been kept for the cultural competition. Interested kids danced to music and the best three performers were awarded prizes. The day cam to an end with the distribution of laddoos, before the children proceeded home. Dr Indraneel Mandal facilitated the planning of the day’s activities and motivated the volunteers on site.
